You can change the filter and whatever ATF drains out when you remove the pan...to get the fluid in the torque converter you need a pump.

Yup pan gasket and you might as well change the filter at the same time. And when you pull the pan only about 4L drains outta the 10L? I cant remember how much is in the TH700-R4

should be 7-8L max i believe with a stock pan and no external cooler

no I think he's right with the almost 10, it is very close to 10. The best way to change the fluid is to hook up a resevoir with new fluid to the cooler line that goes back to the tranny and a drain pan to the the one that goes to the cooler and start the car and let it idle in gear till the fluid draining is clear, then remove the pan and change the filter. Make sure you top up the tranny after.

take ure car to one of those lubs places
ure filter should be ok but why not change it for the extra few dollars.
get them to hook it up 2 the machine and replace all 10-12 litres.

how would I drain just a little bit of it? like a litre?

since I think I overfilled it...

it's at the full line, when it's idle after a few minutes (should be at the add marker)

next, with the TV cable from an 86? same tranny, fit on my 89... (don't ask why I had to do this....)

I "think" (Im better at guessing ;D) but as long as both cables are for TPI you should be fine. if its from a carb car and your TPI it won't be long enough.
