Why do all the Canadian teams have a fat 60 year old dude singing the national anthem and all the American teams have some hot 20 year old chick sing theirs?

Discuss.

yea i love that police captain that sings for the ottawa senators and i love how the canadian anthem singers hold the mic up and let the fans sing, unlike the yanks who have to sing it all cuz they feel unsecure about themselves cuz they dont want to stop in the middle of there presious anthem or some shit lol..

i come back just to say one thing:

Danzig you are more inbred and retarded than any american ive ever met..

plainly, you are a fucking moron..

Edmonton and Carolina are fucking classy cities. .both of them. Did you hear them singing each others anthems? That is what it's all about.

i missed the anthem last night, but the one who did the opening game in Carolina botched it pretty bad. Good looker, but not a singer thats for sure.

National anthem at the start of the game is stupid, outside of international tournaments.

Pointless waste of time. Neither team is representing the country, so why play the anthem.

isn't it carried over from ww2 time as a way to promote nationalism & patriotism?

pronger and pecca were asked that and they said it sends chills down their spines everytime the oilers singer holds the mic and lets the crowd sing, so keep it going, why stop it?

matt

Because it's not America vs. Canada...

Then again, if you're cheering for Edmonton just because they're a 'Canadian' team, you'll never understand what I'm talking about.

Why get rid of the anthem? What is wrong with singing a song which represents your country, and why do you need a reason?

matt
06-19-2006, 12:51 PM
The only reason it's still done is because of nationalism. Nationalism is a bad thing.

It makes sense in an international tournament, when you sing the other teams nation out of respect, because that team is representing that country... NHL teams don't really represent anything.

89RS
06-19-2006, 01:10 PM
And why, dare I ask, is Nationalism bad at a sporting event? i guess they better dispose of the anthem singing at the Olympics as to prevent the fierce sense of nationalistic competition.

Oh wait... ::)

matt
06-19-2006, 01:28 PM
Traditionally, the anthem was sung by a representative from the opposing nation, as a sign of respect. And the Olympics as they are now are a joke; but that's a whole other argument.

Nationalism in the NHL is stupid.

89RS
06-19-2006, 03:07 PM
why?

the players are representing a city (regardless of their own nationality), and that city is representing a country. What's the issue?

matt
06-19-2006, 03:19 PM
I'm honeslty not sure what the issue is, ask everyone who's ever boo'ed another 'teams' anthem.

And the players are representing the team, that's it. This isn't amateur hockey, this is business.
