On a 86 camaro fuel injection set up, do you HAVE to use a screw-in type fuel filter? the one i have now is just clamp on and has been forever, but i just phoned summit racing to order a chrome one and he said you HAVE to use a screw-in one because the fuel pressure will blow off a clamp on one. any of you guys know what a regular 86-90 camaro uses? My fuel injection is on my truck not on a camaro so i wasn't sure what a camaro uses. And also wondering if its true that i have to use a screw-in fuel filter?

On a third gen camaro is has a two flare nut fittings on each side of the fillter. are you talking about the quick style fitting on one of the lines that u push in and it locks?

ya, you push the lines over the fitting on the fuel filter then clamp it on.. the guy said it'll just blow off but i've been runnign that set up ever since i got the TPI, so i was wondering if you are supposed to use a screw in type

ya but i don't want to have to re-do my fuel lines because how do you get it to screw in when its not made to screw in?

replace the section of rubber line with metal line and use flaring tool and fittings so it will screw to the rest of the line.
not so easy if you havnt done it before

clamp in fuel filter is fine, just and long as you have the right fuel injection rubber hose and fuel injection hose clamps. On my tpi monte carlo i used two hose clamps on each side and it has been fine, its under the car so i didnt really care what it looks like as long as it did the job.

Did you take the factory filter off? I just replaced mine last night and I don't see how you could easily put a clamp on in there. You're talking about the filter under the back of the car on the driver side right?

that car was a monte carlo, original filter was up near the motor cause it was carburated. new filter is above the rearend near the gastank.
