View Full Version : Exhaust size
at what point have you gone to large, and how do you tell?
other then butt dyno or real dyno. what have you guys found is a good 'rule of thumb'?
just wondering how much i stand to gain going from my 2.5" mandrel with dual glass packs and side dump to a full 3 inches to the back with maybe just one glass pack?

stay true dual. although dual 2.5 and single 3 flow similarly i think dual 2.5 has the edge if im not mistaken.
i had a car that ran 12.8 on dual mandrel 2.25 exhaust with an H pipe and it lost major major low end torque when i switched to dual 2.5. Like it wasnt the same car anymore...was louder but not nearly as fun on the street.
its only dual till the L pipe that exits out the side, so 3/4 dual.
how much does length affect the flow?
I will be removing the side dump and routing the pipe to the back of the car to get more ground clearance soon. as long as it stays 2.5" mandrel all the way with minimal bends, should it be ok?

full 3", FULL being the main word not that 2.75 everybody trys to pass off as 3", will flow similar to 2.5 once its installed cause of all the extra bends 2.5 requires,
if you dumped it before the axle its worth it to run 2.5
both will flow over 400hp,
to big of exhaust you will lose torque, but with TPI thats not a real big problem
mines before the axle... i may have found a happy medium.
steve, are you saying that a full 3" to the back will flow the same as my setup?

out the back probably not, more bends, and more pipe, but you're splitting hairs
ok, thats all i needed to know.
was just wondering if it would really be worth redoing my exhaust. this is actually good though, becuase if the gain/loss is neglible then i wont have to worry about anything when i redo for more clearance...
thanks
