Hi all,

Just have to share my close call tonight.

I was having a suspect problem with my timing, found it tonight with my future father in law.

Loosened the distributor clamp - set the timing, tightened it up - keep tightening - WTF?! The intake was $%*%$ stripped. The intake is an aluminum Edelbrock Performer.

The bolt was pretty short - only screwed up the top few threads - we were able to carefully get a longer bolt started (which I luckily had sitting in my extra part tool box) and tightened up!

Fixed my timing problem quite nicely too - wonder how long the distributor has been bolted in like that.

Got to like it when everything works out - I was really dreading my alternatives (fixable, but not fun).

good to hear it turned out good like that, easy fixes are the best. but the worst case scenerio is a tap for the hole. not that bad to do still, but more work. good thing it was the easy way :)

na, mixing the cocktail, lighting it and throwing it is about as much work as turning a tap :P

Yes, EASY = BETTER.

Tap, helicoil, yes - I know. But I'd probably have to A - pull the distributor (not THAT big a deal), or B - remove the intake = REAL PAIN IN THE ASS.

30 minutes of stressing and getting the longer bolt to work was definately better than missing poker night tonight and possibly a few more if it was option B!
