I've been wanting a 92 GTA for a few years now but the cars were either to far away or it was bad timing.

I happened to be searching for Trans Am's on Ebay in August. I found a car for sale with the right options, low miles, and reasonably priced. I emailed the seller a bunch of questions and requested pics. I did an Autocheck on the car and it looked good so I decided to bid on it.

I ended up being the winning bidder on a 92 GTA with only 51,000 miles on it. It is green with tan leather interior, with a 350 TPI auto. It also has 3.23 gears and best of all, bone stock! The car has been in Palm Springs its entire life and it has no rust either. The car is one of only 274 bulit. Apparently, 92 GTA's had to be special ordered. My car has every possible option except for factory CD. The sticker price was likely around $27,000 US.

I flew down on Sept 22nd at 6:35 am to get it. I missed my connecting flight in Denver due to a scheduling change so I didn't get to Palm Springs until 4 pm. When I got off the plane, it was around 33* while in Saskatoon it was cold and raining.

The seller picked me up from the airport and I gave me the keys to take the car out for a rip. I looked over the car pretty closely and decided to go ahead with the purchase (if I didn't like it, I could have walked away). The car has some cosmetic issues, but overall it seems like a pretty good vehicle. I drove 83 mph most of the way back and somtimes I had to drive 85-90 mph just to keep up with traffic. The car handled pretty good through the mountains and I can squeal the tires in 1st and 2nd. 8) It was about a 28 hour drive with stops for food and gas (I didn't drive straight through) and about 1840 miles to bring it home.

To end the suspense, here are some pics for everyone's enjoyment!:

I thought I'd bring up the value of my GTA by parking it amoungst a Bentley and Rolls Royce. :D

Thanks for the compliments. I've never seen a green one in Saskatchewan but that was the most popular color for 1992, ironically enough.

Here are some more pics after I brought the car back to Canada.

Did you have any problems getting it across the border?

I'm not on this site very often so I didn't see your post for awhile. Getting across the border was fairly smooth. I faxed a copy of my signed title, bill of sale, and a "worksheet" (US Customs provided it) to US Customs and Border Patrol in Sweetgrass Montana 3 days in advance. US Customs needs 72 hours notice that you are going to cross because they need to make sure that the title is in order and the car isn't stolen. If you don't do this, they can delay you from crossing the border and/or fine you. It took 7.5 minutes to go through US Customs, they were pretty good to deal with. Then I had to wait in line at Canada Customs for a bit. Once I declared the car, Cdn Customs sent me inside to see a guy in "Traffic". The guy I deal with there was a prick. He told me that my bill of sale wasn't valid. I printed the form of the California DMV website and it was filled out perfectly so I didn't know what he was talking about. He wanted "Proof of Value" and a bill of sale wasn't good enough. Proof of value is: eg newspaper ad, Ebay ad, magazine ad, etc. Canada Customs wants this so they don't get scammed out of tax. Luckily I had a copy of the Ebay ad.

I had to pay GST, $100 air conditioning excise tax, and an RIV fee of $206.70 since my car was just under 15 years old (it was built in Jan/92). Any car that you import from another country that is under 15 years old needs to be federally inspected. The RIV fee pays for this inspection and Cdn Tire's across Canada are licensed to do the inspection. There are other places to that can do it but there aren't that many.

There are some good deals to be had by buying in the US if you do your research and are patient for the right deal to come along. One website I'd recommend checking out is:
