I have a weird question, because this has never happened before...

As of this morning my Subwoofer sounds like ass. The when the bass hits the sub just sort of pops out and back down again...When i parked the truck last night it worked mint, now its not...could it just be the cold? (it is fucking cold here) I pulled the sub out of the box and it looks fine, the magnet was ice cold tho. There are no blown fuses or whatnot, as the rest of the stereo system works like it should.
I dont have another sub to test so are there any visible signs that this sub is blown or not? I've never blown a sub before, and I have yet to crank the volume to a level that distorts the music.

any suggestions appreciated.

I pulled the sub out of the box, seems fine. when i press down on it its not nearly as firm as it used to be, but its not scratchy by any means.

when powered it just goes in and out, not to the beat or anything, just constantly in, then out, but makes sound...bung-bung sort of sounding. one sound when in(down) one sound when out(up). it was working perfectly when i parked the truck. this morning the remote wire from the deck came unplugged from the amp and when i reconnected it, thats when i noticed it had stopped working properly. the RCA's are connected properly and like i said, no blown fuses, amp seems to be working fine, but i dont have another sub to test either way.

Ok, I thought i had this one sorted...I tried a new amp, new sub, new head unit and it still sounds like ass. Could it possibly be the RCA's or power cables? I bought them brand new and they were working properly until the other day...but since i have replaced everything but the wires this can be the only problem..anyone else ever have this sort of problem? The amp is getting power so It couldnt be the power or remote power wires, its just like it isnt getting proper input from the head unit which makes me suspect the RCA's.

I re-wired the ground connection and that seems to have worked, but its still not pumping nearly as hard as it used too...I have to crank the gain to 3/4 to get close to the same thump i used to get at about 1/2 gain.

gain is NOT the volume knob

When did i say that gain is volume? I said i had to increase the gain level to get the same thump that i used to get from this system. I also have to boost the subwoofer level on the head unit up when before it used to be set at 0.
