im considering both, i was thinking either a th400 full manual shift, or a th400 full manual with a tranny brake, its more expensive but more fun also! im also getting a different rearend with a new drive shaft so breaking isnt a worry ;D

oh I LOVE the idea of a tranny brake
seems a stall can only do so much
or should I say so little?
yikes

haha ya, well i decided, cuz my money situation isnt where it should be im gonna stick with the 8.5 10 bolt all done out. since a t brake is like dumping a clutch, the amount of shock that will go through the rear wont make it last at all, at least under foot braking it pre loads the drivetrain taking alot of stress out of the mix. so for now im going with a 3 stage no t brake and a 8.5 10 bolt, untill i can afford to upgrade in the future ;D

no no, 3 grand for a rearend plus 300 more for the tranny, so that would be a total of 3300, instead of now it can be done for about 1200 alot less :o

bleh keep the th-350 and stage 3 valve bodies are over rated. don't tell me the th-350 isn't strong, guys run them behind there 468 chevelles :P

well lets put it this way, we build trannies and know a great wealth about th350/400. the fact is a th350 isnt strong enough to take it. what spend thousands on aluminum drums, billet shafts? all sorts of goodies? etc expensive as shit. not worth the money. a th400 stock internals with the valve body, new pump, and 32 element sprag is plenty good to 700hp in its stock form. with stock # clutch packs. my th350 needs to be rebuilt after every year cuz the clutch packs burn up after a while. and i got my drum machined to accept 1 more in high gear too! ive already broke the imput shaft once. in stock form it isnt good enough for the power and most important WEIGHT of my application.

i got a th400 already for next to nothing, all it needs is some select parts, i can have it together and strong as hell for under 600 CDN. if i want to build a 350 the same strength ill need well over 1500 CDN not worth it just to keep it around, besides the gear ratios are almost identical at 2.52,1.52,1 for the th350 and 2.48,1.48,1 for the th400 ;D and the th400 only weighs a couple lbs more 8) its basically the heavy duty version of the th350 and this also gives me more room for improvement in the future, ya gotta think ahead ;)

your just in denial, ;D i didnt say a th350 is good, its just that a th400 is that much better. id rather have something that will live in my car and not have to worry about it, then spend cubic dollars to make the th350 try and survive :P

The TH400 is the best choice. The TH350 is a great tranny no doubt, but if you can get your hands on a TH400 for next to nothing, it will no doubt out last the TH350 when your throwing everything you have at it.

and a street king, even with my 4.10's 3000 stall and small tire, i still cruized the streets at about 1500-1600 rpm i dont find it that bad at all, how much hwy driving do you do anyways? most of it is city driving :)

That's true, everything around here is in the city so you dont have to go on the highway. The only time I go on the freeway is to get to the track.

same with me, so im not really worried. plus im upping my stall to 3700 this year, and if the rpms come too much of a burden ill just take lougheed to kep them lower :)
