I was thinking of doing a 4spd swap in my Monte Carlo. Since I'm running a Pontiac 400 the T-10 seems to be my choice. How strong are these tranny

You can check my basic tranny info thread at the top; there were quite a few gear ratios available in the T10's. I dont know exact torque figures but guys are running Super T10's behind some serious torque and they seem to hold up fine.

How are they in strength compared too a M20/M21?. I've heard that the Super T-10 is bulletproof , but other's tell me to avoid it?

1st of all...............doing a manny tranny in a g-body(assumed) is a bitch - i'm running an M21 in my 80' GP and it takes a lot of fabing and parts to make it all work well. 79Z28 is right - nuthin is bullitproof. If I had to do it all over again, I would save the money and wait 6 months and try to do a T56 or 6 speed swap. The 373's and the 1:1 4th gear kills me on the hwy. With the 6sp. you can run 4.11's and still have a decent overdrive while you have to run stump-puller gears for the 4sp to get the thing moving (1st gear ratio isn't too hot). MY 2 cents. oh yea................great board, i'm learning a lot ;D

I haven't had any probs running my s t-10 in my 80Z, mind u its only running a little over 4oo hp, But a MUCH better choice would be the muice the rock crusher way stronger but remember man tans' are very violante when it commes to drag racing !!!!

a muncie is a better tranny..they're generally fairly hard to find cause the people that have them never want to get rid of them..But lately there have been a few for sale. I think automan has a complete m20 setup for sale at a very fair price.

my malibu wagon came with a 4 speed saginaw ::) in it and i definitely miss the shifting. I wish i would have had the money for a 6 speed.

The next wagon i get will be a big block 6 speed car. ;D

M20 and M21 :gay: GO for the M22..my dads Ls6 chevelle had one. If you have ever heard an m22 you will never want anything but one. ( yes i mean heard, they make a very distinct noise due to the way the gears are cut ) so basically wat im trying to say if you do go MUNCIE do a 22 no less.

ma dad has a 427 backed by a super T 10 the engine is decked balanced n blueprinted, in his 67 chevelle. not turning out insane horse power numbers but i'd say round 450-475hp n his trans holds up just fine. Just thought i would throw that out there.

M22's are very hard to find and way overpriced, a close ratio M21 will do just fine for the job.
