personally i will never use syn. only really meant for tight clearance motors, i wouldnt feel enough protection running it on my small block. plus you have to wait 1000 miles before running it, so whay switch over after, just alot more expensive. plus i do an oil change every 1500kms so $$$$ ;D

I broke my engine in on Castrol 10W30, but then switched to Mobil 5W30 Synthetic.

In my 190,000km 300" Ford straight 6 (Bronco) I run bulk 5W30 with Lucas Heavy Duty Oil Stabilizer in winter (up north) and bulk 15W30 in summer (I get it free.)

Sorry, last # should be 15W40 (not that anyone cares what a Ford runs.)

There's lots of different theories about engine oil, and everybody will tell you something different. Generally though, the only reason to go with thicker oil is to deal with a really loose engine, or for more heat protection. Synthetic also helps with heat protection (it can get hotter before it starts breaking down and becoming useless.)

Unless your running full throttle for long periods or your engine gets really hot sitting in traffic for long periods, 10W30 is fine as long as you change it regular.

I try to run the thinnest oil possible, as I have no oil windage tray or crank scrapers, the thin oil is easier for the crank to throw out of its way, slowing it down less, making more power. I also don't have any heat issues. I said I'm running 5W30 syn. but I've actually got 1 litre of 0W30 syn. mixed in with it, and if I were to run my car in the winter I'd probably try and thin it further with some Prolong Engine Treatment.

bleh the Lucas Oil additive traps oxygen in the oil and at higher sustained engine speeds creates a white oxygen trapped oil.

I had first hand experience with this event and searched a bit on the net and came up with this guys page : http://www.bobistheoilguy.com/images/lucas/lucas.htm

on a side note: I use 10w30 Mobil 1. The best oils you can buy with low ash content, good flash and pour points are Red Line, Mobil 1 and Amsoil all of course synthetic. The viscosity emperical index on these oils are pretty much the best you can get too.

running 10w-30 for now, but I read up on alot of oil shit on CZ28.com and I figured I would switch to Redline 10W-40, that why my car would be all redline.

Water wetter ---> Redline 10W-40 ---> Redline MTL ---> Redline 75W-90
