Question i've got is will I need a new crossmember? Or can I simply bolt and play? and to anyone else that might know is a motor making 352hp and 485ft/lbs gonna twist a t-toped Trans-am? and if so isn't there a convertable bracing avalible??

you should put SFCs in the car anyway...why are you going TO auto? thats different lol.
i am pretty sure the crossmembers are a bit different..

ok, first of all this is MY car that the swap is happening on, and as far as the frame supports, i picked some up yesterday...
as far as swapping to an auto its a $ issue. I originally built the motor/tranny combo to go into my limo a couple years ago, but i lost interest in that project and i've had the parts sitting around till now. I got this T/A and i have a FULLY BUILT 700R4 with over $4000 into it. Eventually i will probably see if I can switch it to a 6spd, but i wanna use the combo i have at the moment.
there is one other thing I'm trying to figure out at the moment too. the computer has an extra plug in it for the auto tranny, can i just take the wires from my new harness that go to that polug and add them in or do i need to replace the entire harness?

out oooooo....
generally speaking with a computercontrolled car switching for stick to auto, requires a different harness...
how ever the only computer contolled thing on the 700r4... is the TCC... and b&m makes a tcc module you can buy everywhere... i installed mine and i got it from summitracing

the cross member is exactly the same. you'll need a new rad and coolent lines. you'll need that tcc module. you need to weld up that hole in the floor. you'll need to sell me that cover plate in your center console. and you'll also need sfc's for sure

pretty sure t-tops are good for at least 400 hp.. depending on wut kind of driving ur doin I geuss and how tight ur drivetrain is... Im running a bit over 300 with t-tops posi and 295s in the back. and she loves it..then again braces are relativly cheap considering the consequences of fucking something up.
as for swappin out the 5 spd.. Id prbly stick with the standard. but autos are cheap and reliable. and with a shift kit and nice b+m shifter just as fun...

mitch, since when does your CFI 305 make 300hp?

its not cfi anymore.. 600cfm carb.. lumpy cam. heads ported, polished. new lifters rockers the whole bit.. new intake.. hookers through and through. not hard to get 300 out of a smallblock..

well thanks for the tips guys! sorry I havne't been on in a while...
so the car's been running for a while now, kinda in a Franken-T/A, 2 wiring harnesses and 2 computers. This will be remedied by spring, its just a time and effort issure to re-do the dash wiring. Thanks for the info on the tranny swap guys! I've already got the wiring for the tranny with my new harness and computer, as well as a B&M and as far as the rad goes, I NEVER run tranny coolers in rads, if the car comes with a side-tank tranny cooler on the rad I dosconnect it and put in a seporate cooler. I do that for one very simple reason, if the motor overheats, the tranny fluid will heat up in the rad side tank and causes more heat & stress on the tranny. I'm thinking of putting my tranny cooler where the old air-box was by cutting the hole a bit bigger, fabing up an angled riser and putting a small pusher-fan under the cooler.

its better to build a high hp T top car then a coupe,
I know of like 4 coupe cars with just bolt on 305's or bolt on 350's.
and the crack the roof,
at least with t-tops they just twist you don't see the crack
