lowering a vehicle you tow with isnt the best thing to do
CamaroRobZ28beer
01-03-2008, 12:55 PM
explain this, my trailer axel right now sits much lower then my truck so it would be level after the lowering opposed to being angled like it is now
79 Z28
01-03-2008, 02:17 PM
lowers the already limited capacity of the suv's ability to tow. all you need is a drop hitch, thats how trucks do it.
CamaroRobZ28beer
01-03-2008, 05:23 PM
if its too low you just put the drop hitch on upside down....
CamaroRobZ28beer
01-03-2008, 05:25 PM
and still wanna know the physics behind why it tows less because of how low the vehicle is
79 Z28
01-04-2008, 12:50 PM
and still wanna know the physics behind why it tows less because of how low the vehicle is
quite simple, you are taking a designed geometry of suspension that needs the travel under weight, and you are lowering it and possibly making it stiffer to boot, you decrease the effectiveness in the travel and ability to absorb the weight. its not about how low the vehicle is, its about how the suspension is reduced to make it lower. theres a reason why you dont see canned 1 ton trucks towing 15,000lb trailers around for e.g.
CamaroRobZ28beer
01-04-2008, 07:23 PM
ohhh the geometry why didnt you say so, im not pulling alot so just relax there alien vs predator boy

your gonna pull a boat and trailer? fine, can it do i really care what you do? lol
http://www.thisisjuststupid.com/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/image/ATT000031.jpg
jason right. dropping is sacrificing a LOT of functionality for looks.
you're taking a suspension designed to tow and replacing it with a suspension designed to look pretty. doesn't require math.

yes jason, thats exactly what its gonna be like, you fucking tool
79 Z28
01-07-2008, 03:04 PM
no when you end up on your roof in the ditch ill be sure to honk twice lol
oh and for the record, it's not geometry :P
CamaroRobZ28beer
01-07-2008, 06:20 PM
im pulling alittle boat, how would my vehicle end on its roof? are you fucking retarded?
simple. stiffer lowering springs won't balance the weight over the length of the car as well. weight on the back will cause the front end to lift more than it normally would. your front end being planted on the ground is very important, especially when you have to react and swerve quickly.
there's a reason your truck wasn't low from the factory. hell, lowering increases aerodynamics, handling (assuming no load) and looks way better. do whatever you want, but lowering will decrease the towing capabilities of the truck significantly. will it be dangerous? i don't know. is it worth it? not in my opinion... but then again, i wouldn't have put those pavement princess wheels on a truck like that in the first place. not knocking you for it, just not my thing. it's your truck, do what you want with it.
CamaroRobZ28beer
01-07-2008, 08:41 PM
like i said, im putting ss springs on, which are 2.5 inches lower or so then the monster springs in the lower models, does that mean the ss is unsafer to pull with then my model? sure it didnt come that high but it dosent mean im throwing towing capability out the window or that my vehicle is gonna some how flip onto its roof in magical jason land. im pretty sure the non ss trucks are assumed to be used maybe slightly off road or going up mountains to ski or something girly like that. all i want is an ss stance because i basically have ss wheels with a slight dish so im pretty sure my vehicle isnt gonna be EXTREMLY dangerous like McBerkin says it is

01-07-2008, 08:59 PM

mines different from yours
Jessev
01-08-2008, 07:24 AM
yes yours is bigger, probably higher towing cap but maybe not..
Lets see you geniuses explain this one ::)

that truck is just dumb. before they even added the boat
CamaroRobZ28beer
01-13-2008, 11:57 AM
thats awesome
comparing towing capacities of a dually long box supercab and robs SUV takes some real mustang finesse.
i would love to see that truck try to make it down a boat launch.

most likely on baggs so i am sure thats not a issue but sill

I think its safe to say rob will be fine if he lowers his truck,
hes not towing a fucking 60 ft. boat

Nice explanation.
Quick, someone phone the guys who built that truck and tell them they don't know what the fuck they're doing as it may spontaneously flip onto its roof one day!

that trailer looks fine on there. whats it weigh? 2500lbs? You wont ever have to worry about pulling that boat with your truck. If you lower it just make sure the trailer still sits level, with a raised ball mount.

03-31-2008, 04:56 PM
haha that guy takes his truck and boat out all the time so it obviously does make it down a boat launch
