im looking for a shift kit that if you have the shifter in 1 2 or 3 it wont shift no matter what speed your at but if you put it in D, it will shift normanly. i know B&M makes them for the th350 and th400 but does anyone know if anyone makes somthing like that for the 700r4?

you'll probably want a transgo stage 2&3 kit, part number is 700-23 or something like that
that'll hold to any rpm and remove any restriction on downshifts
i think that's the kit that'll optionally convert to a manual valve body that will completely disable automatic shifts

what does it do when you put it in drive though?

if you dont' do a manual valve body, it'll work normally in drive, and it will still downshift to 1st when you're in 2nd, etc.

so say if i have it in 2, it will shift through first but stay in second now matter how fast you are going?

stock it wont shift if you have it in 1 2 or d (Theres no 3, just D and OD)
i dont see the problem

i dont know. i dont have it in yet. i have only driven with an automatic in my old 95 dodge 1500 so i dunno if older automatics are any different. and my shifter has a 3. it goes from bottom to top 1,2,3,D

what do you think is the purpose of having those? when you put it in 1...it stays in 1...

so if i have a manual valve body what happens if i put it in D? and with a manual valve body would you still need to use a throttle kickdown cable?

and i was looking at tci's manual valve bodies. they have 2 for the 700r4. one says reverse shift patern and the other says reverse shift patern with full engine breaking. i know what the reverse shift patern is but what does it mean by full engine breaking?

you could learn how to use google. theres also a search function on every forum ever. the idea is you search for somebody else that asked the same question and read the replies. but you knew that.

look, can you help me out or not? and i told you i did use google. my question when you have a manual valve body and you put it in D, im guessing it would just go to the highest gear in the tranny?

do you even know what a shift kit is?
go back to building non-stroked 383s
when you put a manual valve body automatic transmission into 3rd gear, it goes into 3rd gear. just like a manual transmission, theres just no clutch

stock it wont shift if you have it in 1 2 or d (Theres no 3, just D and OD)
i dont see the problem
a 700r4 will shift past a certain rpm no matter what position the gear selector is in
they've always been like that
it'll also prevent downshifts at high speeds (i.e. it won't let you cram it in first if you're rolling at 100kph)

ya but considering this guy has NO idea what hes talking about i think stock shifting will be just fine. how high do you need to rev a V8??
steveo

do you know how high a non-stroked chevy 383 could potentially rev?
i don't know. you don't know. hell, even he doesn't know.
he might be dropping a 2-stroke overhead cam wankel rotary engine that'll top a 30 grand redline in that thing
lets keep the assumptions to a minimum

do you know what the rpms are that it will shift into 3rd if im on 2 in the gear selector

from what i remember, you have to get pretty close to the rev limiter for it to force shift (with a stock engine)
it's a safety factor so you don't kill your motor real good if you don't realize you're not in D
a 700r4 can be sketchy with a stage 2 kit, behind a high powered engine, unless you're fairly skilled. 1st gear on a 700r4 can pass by a lot faster than the reaction time of a newbie racer, it's common to miss it
problems mainly arise when you build a racing engine that's built with a powerband over 6000rpm, and you want to actually get it that high, that's when a stage 2 kit is absolutely necessary

its also got corvette servos and corvette clutch pack so it should be fairly strong
