was trying to find a k&n intake for my car; i work at a k&n dealer so i can get them at cost so they're usually pretty cheap

1997 CHEVROLET CAMARO 5.7L V8 F/I - w/o ram air or traction control
i have traction control, what's the difference?
i looked at the instruction sheet; and popped out my airbox, i can't see anything that looks like it'll get in the way; is it possible to make it work?

ya i remember that from my lt1 days - cant remember what the difference was - never had k&n though, think it was a moroso

The difference is the ASR models have a box attached to the proportioning valve, so it interferes with the larger intake. It's still do-able, greg on here ran a non-ASR K&N intake on a car with ASR, it just rubbed

that makes sense, there is a bunch of extra brake shit down there
i suppose i'll make my own

actually dude i have t/c and i have that intake and it doesnt rub or anything...i have no idea what difference that will make, but i dont think its important

i guess how hard could it be to make it fit; where exactly would it rub anyways?
it's kind of hard to imagine it in place, is it the sheet metal mounting bracket that would hit it, or the filter, or what? i can't see the tube being the thing that rubs
shit i'd almost just delete the traction control system and get it out of the way, but i fell in love with it the other day when i found myself parked on an uphill skating rink..
i just gave it half throttle and it went straight up like i had chains on.. it works so well when you need it

fbody traction control system isnt very good compared to newer systems - almost killed me a couple times locking up the accelerator while im trying to cross oncoming traffic

all it does is apply brakes doesnt it? i don't see how it really has any benefit

it doesn't seem it even does much with the brakes, it seems to modulate the throttle with a solenoid of some kind?
a little like abs but for poor road condition starts instead of stops
i haven't been using it long, but i find it works really well on slick roads. an LT1 is a terrible thing to have to start driving up an icy hill with cold tires, it has way too much torque even below 1000rpm.
i usually leave it off for normal driving; it's just a utility

all traction control systems will restrict throttle input - or at least all the ones ive experienced - but lt1 old technology - even the system on my ls1 wasnt much better
and if you think starting on a slick hill with a v8 is hard try a car with a turbo setup - lot less room in the rev range between stalling and spinning the tires

really strange. I don't see why t/c would make a difference with a cai

few days into it, this car is starting to remind me of working on an import, but without the convenience of overhead cams
everything you need to access is buried under either 5 other components, or a series of plastic covers
i guess i'll get used to it
