yepp, i got the ones with the emmisions hookups tho, im too lazy to delete the air and egr, i plan on installing them on the 8th, sooo ill def let you know!
apparently even with the coating on them, you should still spray some hi temp paint as the coating will come off sooner than later..

actually they werent as bad as i thot...385 for the headers and 115 for the y, i got an msd cap and rotor also cuz my optis working fine...and the bosch rep gave me a set of plugs for her too for free!!

02-26-2008, 05:12 PM
i didn't know pacesetter had good longtubes for camaros with air/egr tubes, they list them as 'offroad use only' on their site
i've only ever seen their cheap shit lineup of longtubes with emissions crap
what's the part number?
CamaroGirl
02-26-2008, 05:22 PM
72c-2237
ORY is 82-1161
they only mean that b/c of the cat delete...dont go midtubes tho, not worth the install, money, or power...
apparently pacesetter makes great fbod headers, well worth the money and quality is decent

b/c im already under the car, i dont get a whole lot of chances to work on it as i dont have acces to a hoist, plus ive had the car for almost 3 years now and the plugs, wires and for all i know the cap and rotor hasnt been done, so it cant hurt it..

Painting over ceramic coating = stupid, don't do it
MSD = JUNK!!! Only good for race applications and their Opti parts fail constantly, I've had two MSD opti units that were bad right out of the box. I would never run and opti unless its OEM GM.
Why get the emissions tubes on the headers when their role is to pump air into the exhaust to warm up the cat when the engine is cold only?? Air tubes aren't even needed to pass aircare on a car, they're only there to warm the cat up faster. I've installed several sets of pacesetters and all I got to say is if you don't have a hoist and aren't prepared to do a lot of work then get someone to install them. You need to remove the steering shaft, all the air tubes and crack the engine mount and lift the engine up to get the headers in. Some heat tape on the rear brake lines on the driver side of the car is a good idea too.

so the Accel optis are bad too? I need to replace mine and there's only 3 options, MSD, Accel and Delco. Delco appears to be the cheapest, there's units on ebay for $160ish

yea i wasnt sure about that whole painting ceramic thing tho, i dunno why those guys said to do so...
im totally prepared for alot of work, im doing this for the experience, i will have help obviously
it probably is pointless to get the ones with the emissions hookups, but at the time i ordered them i was under the impression that the egr and air delete was difficult, im aware now it would have been the better route, but its a little late for that now...
also i was going to just order an delco opti but like i said i havent really had problems with it so i just wanted to get a cap and rotor for tune up purposes, im already doing the wires with an aurora set and platinum plugs, so it cant hurt it to do the c&r...that and the msd setup is wayyy cheaper than the oem niehoff shit lordco sells...
if the opti goes, than it was probably on its way out anyway, then ill get a new one, i dont like it when the car breaks down, but i do like working on it so i like the opportunity i guess

airtubes are useless at the header, but when you bypass the diverter valve and pump in right to the cat it gets cooking hot and increases oxygen percentage in the exhaust,
good way to pass aircare :D

they just have a higher failure rate than the gm optis, it isnt' garunteed to die right away
my dad's TA had an msd opti, lasted for nearly years of hard use then exploded like a hand grenade (literally. blew the water pump off and stuck a hole in the radiator)

was some unknown aftermarket aluminum waterpump the shop chucked on when they changed the opti
it blew right off, and split it nearly in half

ANYWAYS...
i got the headers on yesterday, took the better part of the day, about 9 hours with 3 of us and a hoist...not bad of a job i must say, only problem we had was getting the passenger side in, so we jacked the engine up a few inches, and then we got it...also changed the plugs..decided not to do the cap and rotor b/c of the location and like i said, im not having any opti problems yet...when the time comes i'll get a new acdelco unit. i'm getting aurora to custom make me an lt1 wire set so i route them over the valve covers too...
the pacesetter instructions were good, but not specific... i found a great writeup on z28.com tho and that helped a bunch

I did some research into the Opti units and apparently the first version MSD's were designed like the Delco units and if the end user didn't properly set up the rotor, it would fly apart after awhile, causing the units to grenade. Apparently the new second gen MSD's have cured this problem and instead of copying the Delco units, they improved the design the second time around.
