View Full Version : rear end question
So i just bought a disc rear end today
I check the posi by holding one end and trying to turn the other, and it's real tight
however after i got home, i found out that both axles have a in/out play of about 4-5mms
is that normal at all? if not is there anything I can do to fix this?
I actually had the same thing on my last rear end too, but only about 2-3mm of play.
btw this is a 9bolt rear, so no c-clips
could it be the axle bolts(whatever they are called) are loose? I know the guy had everything apart, so don't know if he actually tighten them and such

4-5mm is a fair bit,
the bearings are pressed on and held by a retainer plate,
the backing plate is the retainer, check the 4 bolts see if they are loose,
if not either the axles are pulling out of the bearing, or something is worn,
I wouldn't be terribly worried about it, but keep an eye on it
Thanks man, I kinda suspected you were the one I should ask about these rear ends lol.
are the 4 bolts the ones I can see when I open the cover? sorry I know next to nothing about diffs.

the retainer plates are on the housing ends
i'm a retard when it comes it this jason lol
I know the diff housing is the big thing inside the middle part of a rear end with the big gear on it lol, that's pretty much yet; so retainer plates are at the 2 sides of the housing? like where the axle shafts connect to the housing?

ends, as in where you bolt the wheels to the axle, the tube ends
lol ok i know what you mean now, it is loosened haha
I thought those 4 bolts are just for the caliper brackets

if the bolts are lose just tighten them,
if you start pulling the axle out then you could run into problems
