I'm a newb but have been browsing your forums looking for info.

I've concluded the following:

(1) JMS and MMC are the 2 most recommended shops in the Lower Mainland for LSX's.
(2) Epic Kustomz & Performance has an awesome and honest mechanic / tech named Matt but the company's rep was damaged b/c of Roy and some dude named Gus

In another forum, I was told to visit Haney Automotive Performance. I'm a fairly reasonable guy and realize that a shop can't make "EVERYONE HAPPY". I'll keep an open mind on all the shops above.

MY CAR
- 1987 Mazda RX7 w/ a 2000 Camaro LS1 / T56, 2700 pounds
- minor bolt-ons (CAI, headers, exhaust, LSD)
- seasonal car and weekend warrior but not DD
- plan on making runs at Mission

MY GOALS
- tune the car to its max. potential given the current setup
- ideally the shop SHOULD have a dyno for test n' tuning purposes
- mod it reliably and in the best "bang-for-buck" increments
- ultimately wanting an STS Turbo setup
- I don't have an unlimited budget but I believe in paying for quality work

MY QUESTIONS
- w/out flaming any shops which shop above would cater more to my goals?
- does one shop specialize in a certrain area (NA, forced induction, drag race, tuning, custom fab, etc.)?
- if u feel more comfortable please PM me

I'm not even going to touch that question, but that's a pretty cool little car. Looks like fun.

Matt that used to work with Epic works part time for me doing all my tuning work. I'd be glad to help you out, none of the listed shops currently have an in house dyno but do have access to one. I have experience with install and tune on an STS turbo system in a camaro. I hope I can help you out, nice looking car BTW

man....i've always wanted to build one of those

i've run into one on the mainland with a carb smallblock and a fairly large roots blower

by the way it took off on the highway it seemed like it ran high 7s, pretty scary what smallblocks do behind light bodies

I used to own an rx7 and always wanted to do the V8 swap. That engine bay looks so mint with the LS1 in it!

Thanks 4 the compliments guys! Wow, u guys aren't really as bad as the guys on VM (vancouvermustangs.com) say. LOL. J/K.

Rotaries r brutal on gas. My bro's RX7 pushes 400 whp & he gets about 250 km on a full tank. 'Cause of my T56 I can still get 30mpg highway. Power to weight ratio on LS1 RX7's are awesome.

Adam, I've read alot about u and u seem like a standup (but short) guy and knowledgeable mech. I'll drop by once my car's outta the bodyshop. Your in Langley now aren't u?

well waynes a mechanic and sometimes people bring him cars that have ls based motors in them, and he often changes parts on them, then uses tuning software to make sure the ecm, this crazy little thing that controls the engine, to adapt to these parts that were added.im trusting him with a 1500hp pump gas twin turbo motor.im either very stupid, or trust his work from past experience.sorry for being an ass, i was bored. but yes he does ls work.

I was talking to Dave (guy building Mikes car) the other day,
he said its cheaper for him to fly a guy up from California for the day pay him for his time and fly him back then to pay anybody local to do it, and it'll be a better tune

he said that's from scratch too,

I'd love to learn how, but I just don't have the time,
I'll keep to fucking with my shit

No apology needed. I appreciate the info.;)

A lotta ricers do this b/c they want to get it done right the 1st time and not have to get it re-tuned several times even with the same, unchanged setup.

NICE, CLEAN vert, by the way! Shite, all of you's got nice cars in yer sigs. I'm sure some of u r lying. LOL.

Ya I think I've already made up my mind. Based on the majority's recommendations ('cause that's all I can go on), MMC it is. I guess Matt's there now?.

THX 2 all 4 yor input! Much appreciated.

lol, i appreciate the recommendations, we have done quite a few lsx motors now and we just finished building a h/c/i 99 vette, that'll make some big numbers, we also have alot of experience with fc's and fd's, im pretty sure, between me and adam, our resume's (customers cars) speak for them selves, as for dyno's we are just working out the particulars on the space needed for the install on a md 250 dyno, as adam said, very nice car, nice and clean

he might be good, but his rep is based on online reviews, nobody local. he needs to be able to configure tunes for our altitude, or lack thereoff, and temp and air .i hope he works out, because online raves and reality rarely work out, and hes tuning 3 very expensive motors.

OMG! Ladies & gents, the flamin' has begun. I'm assuming there's a tone of sarcasm in this.

I hope u guys understand that all I wanted was recommendations on the noted shops, since I haven't had ANY experience with them at all. I figured I'd make a decision based on YOUR experiences. I am sure JMS and MMC are probably 2 of the best shops around.

BTW, I tried contacting MMC but the # is outta service and I also called JMS and spoke to a fellow that was very polite and honest. He said, dyno tuning won't be available for 3-4 weeks b/c they were in the process of getting their own dyno instead of sourcing out. He asked if it was possible for me to call back in that time. Also, he took the time to ask me pertinent questions bout my car.

PEACE!

Sorry about the delay in response, as explained in the PM I was out of comission for the past couple weeks due to my broken hand and necissary surgery following. My office is not yet completed in my new shop for this reason so the phone is not plugged in. My tuner is probably the most experienced with LS motor tuning in this area but parm is also very good and I would not hesitate to bring even my own car to him. Hopefully one of us can get your car sorted out asap.

i can't vouch for either since i've never had any tuning done by either but i can say that matt (bunker) has a really good reputation with LSx and even LTx motors on online forums...but like kobra said it's hard to judge a persons work from just word of mouth online.
