Posted this on VIFBODY as well but no one is responding so... anyways here it is

I want to get a buffer so I can personally detail my bro's car and mine.. I know the one I want: the mikita 920 c (max 3000 rmp adjustable speed) but it cost 300 + for one...

so I asked my dad if I could use one of his many buffers he owns (he has 10) that he used for his boat.

unfortunatly most of them are 2 speed and the 'trigger' is just 'on' and 'off', and not how much pressure u apply to it...

Basically I am asking which one of these buffers are best for the job and perhaps closest to the mikita I want

a) 6inch. disk, variable speed polishers operating @ 2500 through 6000 RPM

b) 4 inch. disk, hi speed polisher operating @ 10,000 RPM * I think this rmp is too high*

c)7 inch. disk, variable speed polisher operating @ 1500 through 2000 RPM

d)8 inch disk, 2 speed polisher operates @ 2000 or 3800 RPM

I think a) and/or d) machine is best. even though the c) machine is totally variable, 8 inch is the most common disk/pad size.

whacha guys think?

i think you should stick to a low rpm or you might burn through the clearcoat, and you can do my car once i get all the oil of of it ::)
