So I am prety new to the Camaro world, I am currently looking to buy one...
I went to look at a 78 Z28 today, and there was some rust/cracking on the door, and right behind the door on the passenger side, the seller said from what he was told from Camaro Guys it came like that from the factory, the driver side ad the same problem but he grinded the rust out and gave it a quick patch job...
Is this a common issue? Did the cars come from the factory bondo'd?
This kinda sounds like BS

I believe that they DID use body filler on cars on new cars. they would rather fix a dent with a body man, than to rip the car apart and re weld in a panel. its about money not quality.
the severity of that condition..... I would question however.
looks like some shotty workmanship to me

I am not buying it... but I am new to the Camaro world and need to know the normal areas for rust... I am aware of the tirewells, trunk if had a spoiler, and even floor pans, this I what I heard... any help on things to look for would be great :)

We could always get into semantics about that one, how about we talk about the old turbo 4 bangers?

on topic, thats a brutal amount of bondo, they might come with a skim coat or something but i doubt they'd put on enough that it'd crack like that

they used filler in small areas like a pillar to roof skin, they dont have time to "bondo" panels, its easy to pull the car off the line and crush it

on 2nd gens the worst place for rust is the rocker panels, particularly the rear end of them. lower door skin from water trapped in the door, rear frame rails just in front of the rear wheel arch, lower end panel, floor pan under the driver and pass foor area. when the carpet gets wet there the moisture stays forever. body to rear dash, at the bottom of the windshield. and at the front of the rear wheel wells in the seatbelt area in the back seat.

that car was hacked....usually bondo doesnt crack unless its on very thick. only way it could be put on very thick is if the dent wasnt pulled out enough.
"thicker is quicker" ....but not better
