yeah stage 3 turns your tranny into a manual valve body.

there are 2 stage 3's shift kit stage 3 that still retains the band and the old valve body, the makeshift stage 3 if you will. have to shift manually, increased line pressure and more wear on the pump. but you still retain the gear down engine brake feature. with the true stage 3, by changing the valve body, you lose the engine brake feature, when you downshift it will just coast like its in neutral till the input speed matches the output speed then you'll accel again. pump is put to 100% capacity all the time, and everything gets max pressure and stress. its really for racing only or hot street applications. and the tranny life will be reduced greatly. for e.g. mine will have to be taken out and refreshed every year or 2 max. not for the faint of heart, plus the tranny will shift so hard, its uncomfortable for regular driving unless you have a huge stall to absorb some of that shift, so it doesnt chirp the tire at 20kph and 1800rpm :P 8) ;D

so if i wanted to put a manual valve body in my tranny, is that all i would need. Basically just throw that in and thats it?

no its pretty complicated, to go stage 3 manual valve body you have to completley take the tranny apart, remove 2nd gear band, add parts in certian places, take out some seals and rings in other areas, change the piston spring, add check balls in certian passages. basically completley reconfiguring the internals of it and how it works. 10 out of 10 in the difficulty meter, specialized equipment required also. it aint fun. its rebuilding the tranny from the ground up essentially 8)
