k my 91 camaro's transmission is pretty much done. drive and overdrive slip after like 2500rpm..but when its cold they work kinda for a bit longer. all the rest of the gears work fine, if you guys think its salvageable let me know what could be wrong with it.

anyways i've always wanted to do the swap so i just might do it now..

question.. what do i exactly need. my car is a 91 if it matters.

also...when did the 'world class' t5's first come in fbodies.. i found a donor car that i could rip all the stuff out of but its an 87 with rebuilt tranny so im worried its not a world class tranny

also...will i need to change my radiator... will i need to cut or weld anything ?.... will there be issues with my speedo ( not that it works right now anywys) but 91/92 have different dashboards

also.. i looked under the dash to see how hard it would be to swap pedals...looks incredibly hard? is it ?

thats all i can think of right now... i wanan do the swap myself cuz i dont have to much to spend right now... but it really doesnt look that easy...

thanks

mounting the pedals is the hardiest part just because its so tight of a space to work in you just got to take the seat out and get upside down. the only cutting is the hole for the clutch master and the hole for the shifter. no rad issues you just unhook the lines. i think 87 was the switch over year for wc and nonWC so you got to look at it to see i think. i think the vss will bolt in don't really remember mine was a manual speedo.

putting the pedals in isnt that hard. just make sure u got the holes drilled in the right spot and that the actual hole for the master is a lil bit of an oval and then bolt it all in. and why a 5speed man? get a t56

so anyone know how to find out if a tranny is a world class t5 or a basic t5? also whats the big difference between the two?

In the beginning, there was no WC/NWC discussion as all transmissions were NWC. The WC designation began in ’85 with Ford using it in the 5.0 Mustang first. F-Body (Camaro/Firebird) began using WC units in ’88. The S10 didn’t use WC until ’93. The differences between WC & NWC are principally in the bearings & synchros. Externally, there is one readily identifiable difference between WC & NWC (without having to know input sizes & spline counts) and that’s the front countershaft bearing retainer. The NWC has a one-piece design that looks like a large welch/freeze plug while the WC has a two-piece design that looks like two concentric circles. Here’s a pic of each (lifted from the HAMB):

when i did mine, i just bolted the pedals up and eyball centerpunched in between the two support brackets and grabbed a holesaw and cut it. i didnt need to remove the pedals to do it. i did need to use a diegrinder to oval the hole because the mastercylinder sits on an angle
