Everyone seems to rave about these and I wanted to get some but Mopac dosn't know what the hell I'm talking about. Are there any non internet-only companies that make these? I like the Spohns and also want the boxed rear LCAs but if I can save on shipping and the currently bad Canadian dollar that would be great.

Yeah, wonderbar, same thing. I searched and could not find a brand that makes them that you could pick up at Mopac, Lordco, etc.

I might be interested in a used one, see if I can find a new one though.

Spohn and TDS both make a version, probably the best on the market. I believe UMI also makes one.

just to be clear, are you looking for a strut tower brace that goes on top of the struts just under the hood, or a 'wonderbar' that bolts on the bottom of your car along side the front sway bar?

steveo

wouldn't your car have a stock wonderbar?

Wow, I thought $220 for LCAs, LCARBs, and Steering brace was a good deal. Add $70 shipping, exchange rate, then duty and I am looking at $400. Ball kicker.

I wish Canada had more to offer for parts.

stops the front frame from twisting and side loading

allpontiacs

But is it worth buying for a street car

SmokeShow
12-17-2008, 11:44 PM
no because its better that a street car twists and side loads
twisted cars are better to drive

Well I guess the million or so F-bodies that don't have it better get one pronto! I'm guessing you have no actual clue.

noticed a difference when i put mine on but i did put on lager sway bar at the same time..but the upper bar makes a huge difference in handling.

Im not too sure why there was a difference but between the "Iroc" cars that I had and that one 91 Z28 it seemed as though the 91 handled worse then the Irocs.

The 91 didnt have a wonderbar and its sway bar was smaller then the others.

As far as technically speaking Im not sure what the differences are but from my experience the 87 - 90 cars handle better

it's a very worth while upgrade,

that was a weak point, without that bar, durning heavy cornering the sub frames have been known to crack in front of the steer box,

heavy load on the suspension plus the load from the steer box twist these cars like a pretzel

A few days ago I ordered a TDS steering brace (wonderbar) for my 1989 GTA. Should be here in a couple of days and be installed next week.

A few manufactures make these such as UMI, BMR, TDS, Spohn and the OEM one from GM. Spohn makes two an adjustable one and a non-adjustable one. The TDS one is mounted with three bolts on each side all the others, I believe, are mounted with two bolts.
An issue with these is fitment under GTA’s and possibly Cameros equipped with two fans. Some need to cut the fan shrouds to make them fit. I understand the TDS one does not need this modification to make it fit.

The place to order them is from Hawks Thirdgen, TPI Parts and the above mentioned manufactures' internet sites. These are all in the USA. I did not find any Canadian suppliers of these specialty parts. Mine is coming from TPI Parts.

When installing these now is the time to consider front sway bar bushings and possible end links. If these are in poor condition the wonderbar will not perform to its full potential. Lordco has these bushings and end links.
