B&M's Trick Shift and various others are just bottled up Type F fluid. Type F fluid has more friction modifiers in it, because through the 70s Ford used smaller, paper-type clutches so it needed more friction modifier to engage the shifts. GM's clutches dont need so much modifier and if too much is put in (IE Type F in a TH350) then the chances of clutch burn out are much higher. I would just stick with regular Dex III.

It's a vacuum modulator, it's what tells the tranny to shift based upon engine vacuum. Im not sure how to adjust it, we need 79Z28 in here

ok ok, lol the guru is here :P ;D
1. type F fluid and Dex III can be interchanged and mixed if necessary. personally id run Dex III, cuz a) its GM b) whos gonna run ford stuff in their GM product. and c) dex III just works for some reason, lots of people use it for racing even in ford and dodge trannies, must be good then. ;D other then the points listed before on the differences.
2. the vacume modulator recieves a vacume signal from the motor via a line to the tranny from either a carb port or manifold port etc. it tells the tranny roughly what range the motors at as far as rpm goes, it works along side the kickdown cable as a unit. the modulator basically tells the tranny when to shift, if there is no signal to it, like the line was disconnected for eg, then the car would stay in first gear. the adjustment range on it for part throttle accel isnt that big maybe 5mph variance. there is a small screw in it, if you turn it clockwise you will make it hold the gear longer and shift a bit later under part accel, turning it counter will do the opposite, lower it. also if you want to adjust full throttle shifting, you need to adjust the weights and springs in the governer, B&M has a kit for that, alot harder to do though.
i forget what the stock full throttle shift point is, when you leave it in gear but its like 5000 rpm or something. also if you want to shift the gear your self, like have the gear shift in 1st and hold it in and shift when you want, you are gonna beed a stage 2 shift kit, it eliminates the override shift when its put into a lower gear. but shifting manual on a non manual shift kit or valve body slowly waers stuff out prematurely. especially with more hp in the mix. so if you want to bang gears manually all the time i suggest a stage 3 kit or man valve body. but then again its not meant for tons of street use, cuz it has the hydraulic pressures at 100% capacity all the time whare as, in a stock or stage 1 or 2 setup, it will lower pressure output at lower throttle positions, its progressive to make the tranny last 1000's of miles without being rebuilt.
anyhow sorry bout the ramble, hope that answered some questions and some that havent been answered yet :P glad to help :D
