All I have to say is Beam Riders is a fuckin rip off
they wanted to charge me $800 dollars for the subbox in my trunk
fuck that, cost me $50 and took 7 hours I ain't paying $100 bucks an hour for someone to build me a box
They also sold my buddy a peice of shit L7 Kickker square sub
they said nothing would pound more, no they just wanted to sell him a fuckin $800 dollar sub that the spider wires broke, not just 1 all of them, now the warrenty expired and I have a fucking $800 dollar paper weight on my bar
A $600 JL W6 would rock compared to th e POS kicker and its cheaper,
I hate Beam Riders, When I go in there(kingsway in Burnaby) they treat me like I know nothing and try to push shitty products on me, at least at A&B Sound I know the guy treats me well and doesn't try to push shit on me, It also helps I've brought him at least $20,000 worth of sales but still he's treated me good since I bought my first POS sony deck
Well that was fun ;D
Just remembered the kicker sub was from Visions
but I still hate beam riders they sold me Wild Cat subs and said they'd pound, well they fucking sucked

$800 for a box isn't bad depending on how custom you want it , did you want the amp rack built in ? It all depends on how much you want done. why would you even bother getting a price if you could do it at home? And buying wildcat subs and expecting them to be the greatest thing around is foolish, they r an entry level sub and nothing more, and i have put them in boxes and made them out perform high end subs, it all depends on the box design. Its also funny that you opened your mouth without thinking ,beamriders selling kicker, hahaha , think before you speak! And for them always pushing cheap shit on you well its probalaby because thats all you r willing to pay for stuff, you want the best for least amount of money. Well that was also fun !!!!!

I fixxed your post for you so it wasn't in the middle of mine :P ;D
That is just my opinion of Beam Riders, and Wild Cat subs suck, the guy that sold them to me said that they would out perform JL W0's, not even fucking close and the JL isn't much more, the Wild Cats lasted like 3 weeks before my 100 watt alpine amp blew them I took them back got new ones and sold them, Also the guy there literaly mocked me when I asked about a sub box, He said he used Bass Box Pro to design them, I'm like oh, I'm going to go see how much the program is, He's like you'll be back, Now I own Bass Box Pro :P, so fuck the guy who made fun of me
As far as my boxes are concerned, they are the best, most installers are very impressed with them,
In one of my boxes with 2 JL WO 12's of a Clarion 400.2 amp, hit 139.8db, not ported, another box with 2 Type S Alpine 10's and an Alpine M100 hit 136.6db which is not bad
the jl box blew a system with 4 15's out of the water, the 15 box was profesionally built and installed by guess who? ??? :P
neways I know my shit at least when it comes to the major brands and I know my shit when it comes to designing systems on a budget
Audiobahn fucking sucks its over rated over priced crap

well no shit 2 12's will not sound good with a 100 watt amp!!! way under powered, well if he told you they were better then jl's he was on crack, they r not even close...prob is there r so many things to consider with installing subs: box- ported, sealed , bandpass, etc, amplifier always better to have more power then not enough, power wire size also better to have bigger then to small, voltage from deck to amp,and the list goes on.
I see so many people come in and they want to hit 150db's or have a killer system that sounds like a million bucks, but there budget is $500-1000 !!!!! won't happen with good stuff, they end up with legacy or WILDCAT and they are never happy, sometimes the salesman can't win with these customers.
If anybody comes to me i'm gonna help them the way i would want to be helped, we r not on commision, if i think a customer will be happier with another brand or model we don't carry i will send him to that other store that carries it. If it something he wants and we carry it i will beat anyone elses prices peroid. All our decks carry free install, where other companies charge up to $50, if anyone wants good stuff or advice phone me or come see me and i will try and do the best for you, thanks

I have a Phase Linear Aliante 12 brand new in the box for sale.
Makes Alpine (except DDDrive 12),JL,Kicker,MTX,Rockford and many other mainstraem woofers sound like kak. It will not work for bullithead spl levels. This woofer is for those who enjoy music beyond the realm of uncontrolable base response. I've installed a few of these woofers and the phrase (amazing) doesn't do it justice.

considering your asking a $1000 dollars for 1 sub I'll stick to my Alpines
its a very clean sounding sub, I also like the fact that I can blow it and take it to a&b sound and get a new 1 for the next 3 years, for $250 I'm not going to complain
I've also read many reveiws in different car audio magazines stating that JL's W6 subs are better than any thing on the market under $1200
just my 2 cents
I olove my Alpine but nothin is better built then JL I've been running 800 watts to 2 125watt WO's for 2 years now and they still pound

just read the link IMO a sub that peaks at 50 hertz is useless,
most music doesn't need anything below 60 hertz so what the point of a sub that peaks at 50hz, I tunded my sub box for 65hz and I want higher bass like and 75 or 80hz peak\
I'm freq. respone obbsessed
SPL wise yes lower is better, but most people who buy JL, Alpine ,kicker etc aren't looking for spl
the system I built that hit 139db was a fluke I just put it together, it fucking pounded so I tested it I didn't think it would be as loud as it was

beamriders licks nuts now. they used to be good and there staff used to know there stuff. now you go in there and ask a few questions they guys have this stupid stare and are like yeah its pretty good ::)
and the idiot at the burnaby store booked me for a alarm upgrade, and didnt give the installer enough time to finish, so they just gave the car back to me without telling me that the trunk pin wasnt working.
go home to test it, doesnt work. so i call up the burnaby store and the guy says i can just fix it myself.
im like WTF, and call up jim at the surrey store, the guy must have thought i was new or something. but me and my buddies have dumped thousands there when there staff wasnt different every other week.
longstory short , i had to call the chain manager to get it sorted out when the clown shoudl have done it right the first time.
dont know if ill ever go back there, maybe only if jims on the floor and thats only like on boxing day.

generally most subs are crossed over at around 60hz so peaking at 75-80 isnt ideal for most people. My favourite personal setup was tuned to 23hz and peak at 27hz. Generally speaking you will gain SPL and lose SQ while raising your tuning frequency and vice versa but thats only to a point.
the alliante is an excellent SQ driver...some even say its the best in the world. $1000 for one isnt that bad of a deal really, there are many speakers out there that are much higher priced than this one. As for the people buying JL, Alp, and kicker not being concerned with SPL im not sure what thats supposed to mean. Kicker and JL have fairly long histories in SPL competitions.
I olove my Alpine but nothin is better built then JL I've been running 800 watts to 2 125watt WO's for 2 years now and they still pound
i found this comment a little bit closed minded, most decent speakers out there will handle more power than they are rated at as long as it is done right. (clean power and the speakers being used in their proper application, cross over correctly). As far as subs go there are many many subs out there that are manufactured better than JLs they just might not be as popular with the salespeople around these parts because they dont get commision off of telling you there are better products than those that they trying to sell.

I do tend to lean towards certain brands cause I trust what I know and I've heard, I'm sure the aliante is a great sub but I've never heard 1 so I couldn't tell you
as far as hz is concerned most people I've seen that don't know about crossovers etc. have the crossover set at like 100 or more I've seen as much as 180, I can't stand the bass at that range through subs, but it is loud
I've built a a box for a square kicker 15, it was tuned 15-50hz
the bass was insane but it only could be heard on like 3 songs on 10 different cds, I tend to build my boxes for music, not spl
