What kinda cam are you running and what would you say is the best cam for a mild to stock motor on any generation
for 3rd gens I would recommend the ZZ4... it adds a little more top end and allows the revs to go higher without changing too much else-. Also the stock computer can handle it no probs

On my old IROC vert (and will be in my new hardtop) I ran a Comp Cams factory roller with 206/210 dur (something like 265/270 adv.) with .450/.480 lift. Nice mild cam and the computer likes it.

my cam is from comp its mild but verry torquie
440/440/212/212 all @.050 on a 110 centerline.
its designed for low end torque but still makes power till 6000 rpm, im quite happy with it

Heh, nothing special here: "fake" isky 270/280 MEGA custom grind. Cost me... one chipped camshaft core and 30 bucks :D
465/485, 221/232 @.050, 108 intake centerline (Isky's is 112). Don't worry, my car's not FI.

I recommend the following cam as it provides the best 100-3500rpm power band EVER!!!!!
LG4 cam
.350 lift intake
.385 lift exhaust
178* dur @.050 intake
194* dur @.050 exhaust
109* LSA
;) ;D
Ok maybe not, but sadly I do have one. Lots of people recommend the LT1/LT4 cam.

Lots of people recommend the LT1/LT4 cam.
That's because they're so cheap because they're used. They have low lift and ok duration compared to the aftermarket.

well yeah, but it all depends on what you want, bigger is not always better though , you have a narrower power band but have a higher peak HP. the smaller cam has a wider power band and a bigger area under the curve=more useable HP.
it all depends on what you want and how your gonna use the car.
i know of two guys that raced there cars, payams and houmans, payams had this big cc306 cam and a dyno of 377, houmans had a smaller cc305 and a dyno of 355, guess who won EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! houmans car, why wider power band.
they both had heads, payams had stage 3 heads, houmans would be stage 2 if that, payams car had flp LT headers, houmans had dynomax shorties.

ya, buy payams cam was still too small for those heads. i know you guys got to balance between driveability, street legal, gas mileage are all factors. im not saying a 270 deg at .050 lol but something in the mid 30's to high 40's is perfect for those cars with those mods. my new cam is in the 50's somewhere ;D but im also expecting a powerband from 3200-7000 ;D auto, high stall

You guys and those big numbered cams. 270@.050 will no idle below about 1500rpm. Unless your gonna put about 12 pounds of boost on the piston, your crazy. If you want a good street/strip grind. call Geoff Bardahl at colt cams. The guy is a genius when it comes to cams. Good street numbers with relatively stock stuff would be 220-228@.050 and a lift of no more than .495". Put this all 108 degree lsa. and you will have a nice rough idle and awesome throttle up to about 6000. And you will not need too many expensive mods. My idea of a good street combo is one that is reliable and turns heads. I have this cam in a 1981 gmc caballero with a 305 stroked with a 400 crank, torker intake 650 dp, hooker headers etc, turbo 400, 4:10 10bolt. the thing sound vicious, looks vicious, and is one reliable car. And I didn't even come close to breaking the bank.

this is an old post but, i ran a 230/235 .485/.490 lift at 110lca on my last street car. that was a good combo
