1982 LU5 cross fire 165hp and 240tq

c.f.i. cross fire injection also known as camp fire injection
don't see to many c.f.i.'s around
they used to flood the intake with fuel and set the engine on fire
my 82 used to be c.f.i. after it burned it was converted to carb

nah the 5L HO was the L69, the LU5 was known as the Cross Fire 5L....on the rocker panels below the Z28 emblem, the L69 had "5.0L High Output" decal and the LU5 had "Cross Fire Injection" decal

The L69 wasnt available til midyear 83...

a similar setup seemed to work fairly well in 1969 :P

190hp and 240tq

the big difference with the L69 was the higher rated metering rods, corvette grind camshaft and it used the 2 1/4" manifolds and 3" intermediate pipe exhaust.

There are tons of L69's for the pre 85 cars but once TPI came out in 1985, the L69 and LB9 cost both the same to upgrade from the LG4 so no one wanted to go slower for the same price so there were very little L69s produced in 1985, and only 70 in 1986.....L69's are rare in IROC's for this reason...

Easy Question. What is the engine code for the 455HO in 71-72 trans ams?

is L69 shitty..

I've had
LO3
L69
The bottom end of an LU5
LG4
LB9

L69 made the most power by far with only slight mods
My LB9 would be faster but I need a chip to take advantage of the set up and the L69 had 3.73's so that helped alot

The L69 isnt shitty, the LB9 is just better. The 85 LB9 and L69 were the exact same engine except the LB9 had fuel injection and L69 carb...85 LB9 was rated at 215hp and 275tq. FI is a better way to go if you understand how to tune it IMO

I'd take injection over carb any day but carb is better when your on a budget, no compuer needed to tune just a screw driver

http://www.i-55.com/~davidlt/92fhawk.jpg

The only Trans am Firehawk made before 99 (98 was an off year iirc) and i think it was a 365CI aluminum racing block.. the 383 i think went in another one.. which also happened to be the only one without the T-Ram Manifold (the 383)

ahh at least I was close.

The 383 was also iron block and aluminum heads I think then, I knew the vert had the all aluminum block though and I knew it wasnt a 350...

Maybe you should do an Iron Duke swap, make your car a rare one... i'm sure you could find a cheap fiero parts car :)

So.. If you were to somehow manage a carb onto an ls1 (chances are no.. unless were talking Ram Air IV here which we arent ) it would make more power than the SFI?

there is a maniflod to put a carb on an ls1, but why would you do that :-\, its already the most powerful small block gm has ever made

ls6 :) and if you want to get into the argument that there basically the same engine.. the LS2 is as different from the ls1 and the ls1 is to the lt1 or so gm says. and the ls2 is supposed to be as powerfull if not more than the ls6. Bleh Original LS-5 455HO Uber Alles

thats because of head design, i can get some aluminum heads that are similar in characteristics and make the same power. besides carb sounds way raunchier. and it also allows you to do some cool stuff in the racing world, like run low lca cams and add extra fuel just in case it might need it. its only a couple hp between a tuned carb/intake to a FI setup, whats like 2-3hp worth? not the 4000 dollars it would take to get the right setup for my motor. :) plus with carb you get tons of manifold and port sizes lengths etc etc to tune your motor better, just imagine if you had to run the same manifold ofr all sorts of different combos, terrible ;D

i forgot about the ls6, but it is basicly an ls1, different cam, higher compression etc
