I was talking to the Vintage Racing Club organizers ( www.vrcbc.ca ) at the BC Historic Motor Races at Mission Raceway this past weekend. For the past 2 seasons they hold a session called the Westwood 50 class at the races in July which is a group of cars that have a past connection with the old Westwood Race Track and drivers with little or no prior experience race car driving. It is a great event for someone who has a Players car to come out and feel the excitement of running your car at speeds in front of crowds but without the real dangers or pressures or racing. It comes with a 3 day event (this year they had eight 20 minute sessions over the 3 day weekend) with professional driving instruction included from "Morrisport Advanced Driving". The cost of the 3 days this year was $375.00 or less if you become a member of the VRCBC. It is well worth the time and money to come out. Your Players car doesn’t need all the safety gear and you don't need anything either as helmets are supplied if you don't have one. All cars must be in working order and in good condition without leaking fluids, new brake pads as the track is hard on brakes and good tires are a plus. Safety is a major concern of course. Cars must be able to pass a tech inspection at the track before you race.

Anyway, the reason I am giving you this speech is that the organizers have stated that if we can get at least 10 or more GM Motorsports Players car owners and operators to confirm before next year's event we will be able to have our own lapping sessions at next year's Historic Motor Races in Mission BC. I ran the event with no experience last year with my Players car and it was a highly professional event with instruction by "Morrisport Advanced Driving" (www.morrisport.com ) with Tony Morris Jr. lead instructor. He still races in select event and even raced in the GM Motorsports Players Series with his dad Tony Morris. The whole race weekend was first class as the organizers do a great job with everything about these races. It is a great event to mingle with the owners and drivers from the original GM Motorsports series.

I am posting this now to generate interest in next year's races and to give the organizers enough time to work out a schedule to include the GM Motorsports Players cars in next year's races and to give car owners the opportunity to get their cars up and running. I have also started a facebook page for GM Motorsports Players car owners and operators to discuss this event. http://www.facebook.com/#!/group.php?gid=133348540033814

Let me know if you have any questions.

Thanks for reading.

We have 6 Players Camaro's confirmed. 4 more and we have ourselves a series. It is a great way to generate interest & showcase our cars once again the way they were meant to be... on the track. We have 2 1988 & 4 1991 camaro's. It seems like the 1991 year cars are the most popular and still the most active Players cars still running in the Vancouver area. Again, no experience necessary and no special equipment needed for this event. Hope you can all join us or at least come out and watch next year.

Sounds like fun. Undecaled cars are allowed I take it?

Yes, as long as they are in good running order and no leaking fluids. I have done it the past 2 years and it is a great way to find out more info about your specific car as a lot of the drivers, mechanics and owners come out as well and remember the specific car. I have learned so much from the past 2 seasons and received a bit of Players GM Motorsports memorabilia as well, that alone makes it worth it to come out. Hope to see you come out.

How is the car coming? Have you looked into collectors plates for the car, if it is pretty stock which if I remember correctly it is.

Yes I have the plate and no it doesn't leak anything. I think the throw out bearing on my clutch is starting to squeal sometimes so other than replacing that it should be good to go.! I'd love to do this. I even have a helmet!

I'll talk to the 92' R7U owner here and see if he is up for it. His is 100% pristine and none of the race teams have ever had thier hands on it. This could turn out to be an epic roadtrip for us. Definitely keep me posted and I'll do the same. :)

The Vintage race club of BC has cancelled the event. Sorry to break it to everyone. I was really looking forward to it as well as many of you. If there is enough interest from at least 10 Players car owners and operators we can probably make it happen again for next season. Please PM me or post on this forum if we can get 10 cars together I will take it to them and make it happen next season. Here is there link if you want to bug them about it as well.

Again it was a great weekend of driving the Mission road race course with no pressure just getting the cars out to where they are supposed to be... on the track..

I will post more info if anything changes but it is important to let me know your interest so we can get it going for next season if nothing can be done this year.

Thanks again for your interest.

Me, too. With Race City closing I'll need an excuse to travel after this year.
