engine prob

i have a 87 IROC-Z with a 350 TPI, and say a few times a week, the engine will start running like shit, and the service engine light will come on, and then engine will run but like crap, theres alot less power, and the idle fluctuates, but this isnt an everytime problem, like say itll happen 1 out of 20 starts, sometimes it happens as im driving, its just an annoying problem and i wonder if anyone could help me out please? thank you

unplug your MAF see if it fixes the problem,
it sounds like a bad connection, make sure the terminals to your IAC, TPS, and MAF are clean and making good connection, look for rubber through wire
intermitent problems are wiring or connections 9 out of 10 times

does it back fire alot and spit, run out of power at high rpms?
could be a problem with your inductive pick up or the wiring to your distributor
