Seems to me most LT1 guys get a LT4 hotcam.

depends if you want to pass emmisions or not. emmision legal cams are the lt4 hot cam, the cc 305, the xe 224/230, the xe 220/224 and with tuning the xe 224/236. the last one is a good blower/nitrous cam which is what i was gonna run but im going to turbo now so i sold it.

i highly suggest the cc305 or the lt4 hot cam, the hot cam is a 112 lsa so it may be a tad bit more harder to pass emissions, but it will. the cc305 on a 114 lsa will give you stock drivability, stock mileage with about 330 rwhp on stock heads and full exhaust with headers. the lt4 hot cam is capable of that as well. but it has a tad bit more cam surge.

bang for the buck is the hotcam kit available from jegs, you get the roller rockers and everything.

remove rad, water pump, intake, posiblely harmonic balacer and distributor, don't know for sure I've never done a cam on an LT1 but intakes got to come off for sure, can be intiminating on an injected car

you paid too much.

if your water pump goes, get a electric, its like 200 bucks.

opti can be had for 200 usd new if you know where to look for it.

wires, well you dont have to change your wires all the time, especially aurora wires-lifetime gaurantee.

to do the cam, you have to disconnect fuel lines, pull the intake, you have to take off your valve covers, remove the rockers, remove the push rods, remove the lifters, accesory belt, fans, rad, move the ac condensor slightly, crank hub and pulley, water pump, opti, timing cover, timing chain, cam. im sure theres a few things i left out.

hope you know theres more to a cam swap then a cam, youll need springs, retainers, i recomend new pushrods, highly recomend roller rockers, recomend new lifters, intake gaskets, rtv, timing cover gasket, waterpump gasket, and again im sure i left out a few things.

let me know how much your shop will charge, my chief installer from canadian high performance may do the job for a reasonable amount, you pay for all parts or bring in your own, and you just pay labour.
