;D

Does anyone know anybody with shaved door handles and locks? I plan on doing it to my 86 and want to see if anyone has had any problems with it. There seems to be enough room in the doors to add springs to help pop them open. Any advice will be helpful.

Haha your thread title is funny.

Anyhooo yeah popper solenoids are usually the big hit but they can freeze or the weatherstripping can freeze and hey then your door wont open. My dad uses the remote control window setup in all of the street rods he has built and I think that's more reliable but try and tell that to any of the guys at TGO ::)

think of this thou, windows up, doors locked, occupantans passed out with door handles

whats the diff between this and having shaved handles in an accident????? same thing right?? so smash the window. it stupid some of the crap thats "illegal" for street or strip

door handles make it a lot quicker to open is the point... its a stupid rule but there is some logic. if the car had 30 seconds to blow up, it takes 2 seconds to open a door.. but if its shaved then u have to break the window then, deal with broken glass and open it from the inside, followed by getting the person out.

I kind of see chris's point if it's life and death they're gunna smash the window out anyways, it's the quickest way....

but julie if the door is locked its the same as being shaved se my point? so yeah smash the damm window the glass wont be sharp as the type of glass used on side windows will crumble in to small non jaged pieces.
then u can open the door from the inside, or extracate thru the window

Bagged_camaro here:

I did my door and locks myslef. And i must say it was an exteremly easy job (although, i do have alot of electrical and bodywork experience.)

A few things that still get to me are, one, how most people think shaved door solenoids are SO unreliable. All it is is a starter solenoid. Now how ofter do they fail. Not very.
If you do it, spend the money on a good kit. I got a 35lb AutoLoc door kit, and its the best on the market. No probalms , and i dont forsee any either. I can get the kit through my work for $300, then all you need after that is some sheet metal and bondo.

Check out my web site for pics:

PM me with any questions. ;D
