This is my first roc with AC. Seems that when the A/C engages my engine starts to idle terribly (up and down about 800 rmp) and almost stalls. Anyone know what the problem could be. Also, I notices that the AC pump engages when I put the defog on. My old roc didn't have AC and the defog worked fine. any idea why this would be happening?? >:(
Thanks for the help

hey man, when you turn the defroster on it turns the A/C on, I just found this out!! dont ask me why. As for your idling problem, the computer is supposed to raise the idle when the a/c turns on, it sounds like that is the problem, its not upping the idle, what year is it? I would recommend first trying another computer, and see if it makes a difference, Ive got a few so let me know, you could comeby and see if that helps! good luck

Thanks for the offer, but unfortunately I'm in victoria. Seems like the idle problem is caused by the AC pump continuously clicking on and off. Every three or four seconds the pump clicks on and then off again. Perhaps this is causing my idle surge problem because the computer is constantly trying to compensate. Sound right? perhaps I'll take it to an AC shop and see what they say.
Shouln't have sold your old car.lol
AC can be nothing but problems, but the car should only idle a little ruff but no fluctuations, thats the way it was with my last one. What if you hooked it up to a scope, amube you would get a code.

Could be one of the sensors, my old GTA when AC was on would click on and off as well, but never had an idle problem ....
As for why the A/C comes on when defog is on, is because A/C dries the air out, and so defogging the car with A/C works better and faster.
