View Full Version : How loud is a Dynomax 3" Bullet muffler?

my exhaust for temporary use, is going to be the y-pipe from the headers, which goes to a 3" collector. and then cat, well I am removing the cat and figured I would put a 3" bullet in it's place, nice and cheap, but a turn out the side after passenger door and call it a day, till I can put together my dual exhaust.

Anyways, will that 3" bullet be overly loud for street use (IE cop attention) or is it only loud if I get on it. and semi lioud at cruising?

nope those are super loud all the time

i personally really like the sound if they're placed farther back in the system....it resembles straight piped sound but its quite different

this is my old wagon...350 slightly modded full length 1 5/8 headers, 2.5 tru duals flaring into 3 inch bullets and sizing back down to 2.5 tails exiting before the rear wheels. its a lot louder than it sounds

umm i think you'll be alright since you only have one pipe it shouldnt be nearly as loud.

what size primaries are your headers/manifolds??

There Hooker 2055's, 1 5/8" primaries, and the collector on them is opened to 2.25' (full .5" bigger then stock) and the y-pipe is mandrel 2.5" to a 3" collector. I reved it with open headers and suprisingly I didn't find it that loud ;D figured it would be louder, but if the bullet will quite it down alittle more then that I can be happy with that, as it is temporary

yea it shouldnt be too loud at all then. louder than most but not super obnoxious

finally saw the vid. Sounds real good, granted it is duals (which I plan for in the next year) but not overly loud and nice sounding, I think a single 3" should do nicely for now.

any you guys know a place I can get a Dynomax/Walker 24222, it's there 4" round 3"in/out bullet, Lordco quoted $80, Summitracing has it for 35.95US$, and best buy doesn't carry it.

Anywhere else that is cheaper then $80

Current exchange puts Summits prie under $50 buck.

Let me know.

oh and which would be better side exit before rear wheel or dump under the car (don't plan to keep this setup more then a year and I know it won't make air care with a dump under the car.)

Also this will be only a single 3" out the side if done.

im very surprised that best buy doesnt carry it.

i bought mine from lordco about a year and a half ago and i think they came $220 after taxes so they've gone down in price since then. There are also two lengths to choose from

ok so my current exhaust for the LT1 is going to be hooker 2055's, and after the y-pipe instead of the "traditional" cat, I plan on using a Dynomax Bullet #24222 instead, and then run a length of pipe and either turn out or down before the rear tire. All 3" figure that should make for a nice temporary exhaust.

Then my future plans involve cuting my y-pipe (or fabbing haven't decided) before the Y and splicing it into a pair of already pre mandrel bent Dynomax 2.5" I-pipes # 47638 , that they sell seperate from there cat back kits for the HO and V6 models. That will take it up and over the axel, from there a pair of 90* mandrel bends cut and welded appropriately, some small lengths another 90* for the drivers side turn and a pair of Bullet 2.5" dynomax's #24215 or 17218 (Ultra flo) or Borla's # 40941

Can't decide If I want tips on the end of it or hidden.

The I pipes, which I feel always cost the most as there are lots of bends are only 75$US each !! from Summitracing.com (http://store.summitracing.com/default.asp?target=esearch.asp&N=100&Ntk=PartSearch&Ntt=wlk-47638&x=16&y=12)

These are the plans!!!

have u built the temp exhuast yet? i put a bullet on my car recently.. first of all they are a race muffler, seeing that u have headers it will be loud, my set up is stock manifolds custom cat bypass system with stock y pipe then a borla adjustable cat back but i cut out the borla muffler and welded in a bullet in its place. if i have no plates in the adjustable exhuast its pretty much straight pipe.. but on the LS1 u get a back rasp when u open up the exhuast like that, when i closed it off and went thro the borla it sounded like shit! and was way to quiet.. so when i put that bullet in it was perfect! still nice and loud how i like it.. but really deep sounding! its like a stock LS1 with a borla cat back with no plates.. if anyone has heard the set up? pretty common.. mine sounds the same but twice as loud! ya those headers are gona make it loud for sure.. i think it would sound awsome.. but i personaly like straight pipes so n e thing loud sounds good to me.. bye the way i only payed $65 at lordco for my bullet and its the long one.. do u got discount there??? if ur interested i got 2 glass packs sittin in my drive way.. there small tho.. 2 and a quarter... be good if ur just gona thro it away when u put the duals on..
