hi,
i am relocating from calgary to vancouver, and was
wondering if there were any shops in vancouver with
lots of 2gen experience? somebody to work on my
'81. future plans include putting in a crate big
block, 3" exhaust, and upper control arms, among
other things.
thanks.

There are a few of us on here that have done that before, so we can help you out I'm sure. Maybe others know of shops that can do any special things you need, but I don't know of any specialists in 2nd gen stuff. (except my personal shop :D)

What car is this, exactly? Firebird or Camaro?
As for specialist shops, none that I know of. In fact, 2nd gen guys aren't that common at all (at least not ones that actually know their shit). Best bet is to get advice and help from us or others who have proven that they know what they are talking about.

in reality though there isnt anything special or different from these to other cars, drivetrains are widely used, only thing really thats unique is the body and suspension technically but even so most of the parts and configs are the same. really you only need to find someone who is knowledgeable in older gm cars really.

the car is a camaro. in calgary, tim at temple of
torque was a former owner of a 79 camaro, and
was also a really good and honest mechanic with
a nice shop. i was hoping to find something like]
that here. has anyone heard anything about modern
auto tech in richmond?

Well, to be quite honest, a LOT of guys have owned 2nd gen Camaros (although that doesn't mean they know much about them). What 79 Z28 is true, especially in your case, because the Camaro really does share a lot with most other Chevy's. If it had been a Firebird, the situation is a little different as they are somewhat of a niche car even though they share the same basic design as the Camaro. These are super easy cars to work on, man, honestly just work on it yourself. Besides, we'll make fun of you if you dont...
