today it was a little wet outside and my tire began to spin, so i went to a parking lot and watched my tires, doing a brakestand. unfortunatly only one spun. i used to have posi and now only 1 tire is spinning. does this mean i've fried my LSD, or how do i get it back? how much does it cost? and why/how does this happen?..

and when i get a new one, i wanna get one like mike's in which i can bust it left or right.

Yeah there's clutches inside the LSD unit which can burn out just like a clutch on a tranny. Of course it takes a lot longer to burn them out. You can change them yourself however I dont know the cost of the clutch packs, but you dont have to set up the gears again because apparently you can just compress the clutch packs. Try doing a search on the net, that might answer a few more questions.

Not too difficult since you dont have to re setup the gears. There might a website somewhere which gives you step by step instructions...

new clutches are 180 dollars plus tax roughly, you cluch packs prolly arent fried. they just need to be adjusted. my 8.5 used to sometimes let go in the rain to a 1 tire but my clutches were still good, just got them re adjusted when i got the rearend rebuilt 8)

that sounds more like it, today, coth wheels spun during a burnout and layed 2 pacthes, so, i think your right, does soemthign just need to be tightened? or what do you mean by adjusted?

the clearance between the clutches isnt optimal, they need to be shimmed, cux like a car clutch, they get thinner over time. as for fixing it, id leave that up to a rearend tech, you need special tools to get it done and rearends are a precision job :)

Interesting. I've never heard of a limited slip clutch unit needing to be broken in before it works properly. Do transmission clutches need to be broken in as well before they work properly ??? ::)

I need to get the posi unit in my Grand Cherokee tightened as well (maybe rebuilt), where is IWE?
