well if you don't mind loosing a couple fingers or a hand, you can try a jack :ugh:
if you are fond of having all 10 fingers i would recomend a coil spring compresser... If youy go down to Canadian tire or lordco they do have them on the rent-a-tool program, all you have to pay is a refundable deposit.

this is a double a arm setup in the front, not like a 3rd gen, i highly reccoment a spring compressor.

it could, id use 2, like an exh clamp, and just slowly tighten each side down. oh and one more thing if using an exh one, make sure its in good shape lol if its rusty and owned it could snap and you get a bolt end in the noggin :D

i have one of those... a compressor that u slide up the inside of the spring, and there are 2 lil hook clampy things on the top and bottom that wrap around the spring, then u just use and impact gun or ratchet to turn the bolt on the bottom to compress the spring..... id offer for u to borrow mine for a small fee :sanchez: but mine let go when i was installing my lowering springs on my 3rd gen... almost lost my leg  so yeah, go rent the damn tool, and i fu cant rent one, go buy one, they are cheap!

you don't need a compressor to install springs on a 3rd gen
to get the stock springs out just let the a arm down all the way with the strut removed,

wrap a chain around the spring and give it a good yank :D

thats how i did it

yup.... i realized after the fact. the first one came out easy, but the second one was a bitch, i had troubles from the start. i got the a-arm down, and i reach in with my hand to pull the spring out, and just b4 my hand touched the spring, the compressor let go, and the spring shot out from under my car, bounced off the ground, left a mark in the concrete about an inch from my thigh, and bounced across my garage and out into the driveway lol.then i think it was either the next day, or 2 days later u told me to just yank it out with a chain lol. U BASTARD! :ohboy: lol

on one of my old cars i pried the spring out using three leverage bars joined together it shot about 50 feet across my driveway about 4 feet high the whole way like a missle....could have easily killed someone.

Since that experience i havent done it that way anymore....made my own spring compressors

okay i bought the coil spring on saturday and it cost me 114$ bucks. Changed the one side today. I didnt have to compress the coil srping to get it ouct becuase the fucking thing was broken 2 times. two diffrent chunks off it. All i used to get it out was a prybar. As for the other side its gonna wait till tomorrow. And i had a look at it and the shock thats inside of it is broken. There is half a shock in there and on top of that the spring is broken two from rust. Man i bought this car in the summer and i am finding problems one after another. Almost every bolt is snaping off becuase of rust. I have to replace ALOT of fucking bolts! even my seat bolts are snaping from rust. My uncle owned this car before me and he let his women drive it in the winter and they salt the roads up where he lives. goddamit this sucks. i hope to get the other coil spring in tomorrow. right now its jacked up on all 3 sides and realy low on the from drivers side. When u sit in it, it feels like ur stuck in a hole. Anyone want to buy a coil spring compressor?
