Theres this noise thats coming from my engine. I dont know what it is. My uncle told me that its a problem that would cost like 100buxs to get fixed but he didnt tell me what the problem is. Any ways it makes like a clicking sound
awhile ago it made this sound when it got hot, now it does it all the time. If this doesnt help maybe i can somehow make an audio clip of this. Or I would have to go out side and listen to it more carefull.

Sounds like a lifter. A set of lifters is pretty cheap. The camshaft might be worn by now too though.

it is also quite possible that it may just be the lifter adjustment, or if its injected, the injectors

well if it's the 81 TA then it could be rockers, but if you need it rebuilt as per the other post, you can pick up a K kit from Comp Cams for super cheap, to replcae your valve train with all good shit.

If you have the pontiac 301 it doesn't have an adjustable drivtrain. You can buy poly lock nuts to convert it

It wouldn't be the click he's hearing since he doesn't have fuel injectors...anyways...I'm guessing lifters. The chances of your valves needing adjustment are extremely slim. My '81 Formula also had a Wee-oh-five, valve settings pretty much stay where the factory puts them on hydraulic setups. Even solid lifters don't need adjustment as often as most people think, but you don't have solids anyway so that's not a concern. At this point, you're probably looking at a cam and lifter set. And while you're at it, the timing chain should also be replaced. But is a 305 worth it? Nope. If you want to spend money, build up a bigger small block (or throw a REAL Pontiac motor in that car!). Otherwise, just make sure the oil is clean and at the right level, and live with the ticking.
