I like the sound of hooker catbacks on thirdgen's

However, Dynomax ultraflo owns all other mufflers out there

Sorry to hijack this thread, but since we are talking about 3rd gen exhausts, my cousin is looking for an exhaust for his 305. His car has headers, upgaded carb, filter and a couple little mods I cant think of. Is there something that I should tell him to look for?? He kinda thinking about a Flow but I told him that their basicly only good for sound. Am I correct?? I said for him to check into Hooker, Edelbrock and others on the cheaper end of the scale. Are these good 3rd gen exhausts too?? Any recomendations?? Thanks a ton guys

flowmasters are one of the better mufflers made, especially their competition mufflers, winningest muffler in racing ;)

im not too sure about their competition mufflers as i dont really have much experience with them. I know a guy over on malibu racing picked up almost a tenth in an 8 second car switching from borla xr-1s to flowmaster competition mufflers.

What i was mainly commenting on is the 40 series vs the ultraflows as those are most commonly used.

I would go Hooker header/Y-pipe combo, then pick up a 3" catback, to the sound and price you like. I like Dynomax best personally, currently I have an American Thunder Flowmaster, cause it was best deal at the time (Mike  ), as stated above price and sound will be what lets you decide. I haven't heard hooker catbacks, but I have heard both Dyno and Flow .... Flow is loud with back burbbles, I don't like so much, vs dyno is quieter and runs down from high rpm with out so much back burbble (excuse my non technical use, but im sure we know what it is).

i ran the 40's and had no restrictor problems, went from the 3 chambers to the 2 chambers and it picked up a bit maybe, sound was more aggresive for sure, my buddy greg has the flowmaster big block truck mufflers on his car, to keep the noise down, and he hauled some serious ass :noes:
