hey guys this question isint really about the motor but i couldnt find another spot to post it.. here goes..
i just bought a 92 Z28 and the previous owner had a new heater core installed.. but the heat only works on defrost and not on vent.. i can hear a slight hissing behind the heater controlls.. im wondering if something may be loose and thats why i cant change it from defrost to vent..
anyone ?
thanks
Dan

Hey Dan, guaranteed the guy didnt take the dash apart when he did the swap.. people get lazy and dont change it properly.. or it could be the blower fan not working properly..... I changed one on my 91Z28 right before selling it, altho the dash was a pain in the ass to get out, its the only way to do it... if thats the case, check the wiring for the blower motor (engine bay)
good luck

the blower works great it works on all speeds.. the problem is that it doesnt change from defrost (dash pad vent) too lets say floor vents, or vents for heating me...
any ideas?

I only know this cause I screwed mine up when i installed it. The cable that hooks up to the door that directs where the heat goes in the heater box has either been disconnected or broken. To fix it you have to take the whole dash off. Shitty but worth it.

unfortunately you do have to take the entire dash out and even knowing what I was doing and having done it before it still took me about 4 hours.

Dont listen to these dumb shits. If i remember correctly some of our cars use cables to change the vent settings and some use vaccum taken from the motor to change the settings. If your hearing a hissing noise from behind the control panel it is most likey from the vacuum lines that control the vents. Take the heater control panel out and check the back, there should be a connection block with a bunch vacuum lines running out of it. Make sure that none of the lines are cracked or disconnected. That should fix the problem.

hey dumbass, hey said he had no AC, which means he has the cable operated vent control, like mine, which means the cable has come loose or is broken and he will have to take it appart to fix it. ;)

Actually dumbass, if you can read he said he does have AC. ::) So like i said before the hissing will be from a vaccum line.

Its a pain in the ass to fix, I've done a couple, if you can deal with it GM will charge you 8 hours at $100 an hour plus parts.
