need help with tach

hey just wondering my tach is acting up i went to go hook it up today and there were exzisting wires from the tach that got stolen before :mad: so i got a new one and i am tryin to hook it up but on the old wires the power wire= red and the green wire went to the wire on the distributor and white= lights and etc etc etc but when i start my car it just jumps up then comes back down and wont idle???? could it be cuz there 2 different tachs.. dont get mad at me its not my fault im retarded ::) hahahhaa just post any suggestions thanks ryan.

you sure the green wire is in the tach sending unit on the coil?

Green wire for tach signal sounds right. HEI's are super easy, a spade connector in the Tach slot does it all. It looks like I'll be giving him a hand this weekend anyways, so I'll try and sort it out then.
