Ok so while Im waiting for some parts for my LT1 I figured I would try my hand at the old Port/Polish. I need to know what will be good for what I am doing so here is what I have and you guys let me know what works best (from porters and polishers)
I have a Dremel :) ok I can always get an air powered die grinder or something along those lines if it is no good.
I have Iron LT1 heads and Alum intake and TB, so what kind of bits are best that you have found?

Like yourself, I've decided to try my hand at polishing. The best kit that i have found is from SA motor sports.

This kit is available for $84CAN.

iron LT1 heads? i thought LT1 heads were aluminum, except for the baby lt1s that came on those small motor caprices ???

nope Iron heads came on the LT1' 350ci in Impala's, caprices, roadmasters, custom cruiser (oldsmobiles custom cruiser was a US only car)
These IRON LT1 heads are the 2nd out of 3 lt1 heads in terms of flow potential.
LT4 have best factory flow, and from some sources on the net have best ported flow as well.
best LT1 head - 96-97 Aluminum (F/Y - body)
middle LT1 head - 94-96 Iron (B-body)
worst LT1 head - 92-95 Aluminum (F/Y - body)

but the weight doesnt constitute the little extra flow, id pick the aluminum, plus you can run higher compression on pump gas ;D

Stock compression was all about the same 10.5:1 even with IRON. kinda odd was my first though, but ill stick with the IRON till I can afford some LT4's no sense not buying the best head :)

I second the nomination for the SA kit. On top of that, you might want to look into a long shafted "cone" shaped cutter. That's what I used most to shape my valve guides. Should be about 20 bucks or so. Hope you're in it for the long haul! :)

TAKE YOUR TIME!!!!
I just finished up doing it on my heads, and it was my first time .... my only advice cause I still don't know shit, is take your time, it's not THAT hard it just is long and time consuming .... lots of patience too.

he uses 081 casting which is the 305 TPI head from 87-92, but it applies too all heads obviously, only diff are some heads need special attention in different areas then other.

I just did my heads not that longa go. I bought all of the dremel bits that could be found in the SA kit, but I found that many of them were useless. The main porting tool was a tapered tempered metal cutting bit. For all the other polishing, I used 60 and 120 grit sanding paddle wheels. The machinist said I must have been smoking crack because I spent 8 hours on both heads!

This is not true.
They are the same for 92-97 aluminum heads...
