Can be a real pain in the ass to see when its still in the car, and there is usually dirt and oil built up in that area if the motor is old. you're basically gonna have to stick your head against the firewall on the other side of the brake booster :mad:

bright light, and something to clean it if its mucky, wire brush maybe and some degreaser

ok you guys suck and don't know what you're saying lol. The number they have you looking for will only tell you if its a 350 and 2 or 4 bolt. You already know its a 350. Don't waste your time.

The info I need is on the front of the passenger side head on the deck. See circle:

One would assume he is talking about the Casting # and would be the simplest and easiest way to indentify what he has. Cant always expect someone to be there to decode other numbers :D

he asked "just tryin to find out where and what it came out of" the casting numner you guys are looking for won't tell him that. The only thing the casting number will say is SIZE...YEAR...MAIN CAP BOLTS. and that number cna be used for multiple years, mupltiple CIDS and multiple main bolts. So the info he really wants is on the front of the block. :D

yeah true, my 400's casting number tells me it came out of a car OR truck, has two bolt mains and was made between 71 and 80 :ohboy: Some casting numbers are more accurate than others.

it tells you size of motor, mains, and what years it is. if its in the car chances are its the origional motor and thats what it came in :gay: heres a better idea

http://www.mortec.com/location.htm page 1 is that, click to go to the rest on page 2

that link tells you nothing, he already knows its a 350 etc... lol* :ohboy:

doesn't tell you the car it was in, the HP, what size carb, what kind of tranny, when it was built, the day it was built, the month it was built, the plant it was built at, the vin of the car to check if it was matching numbers.

Get the point? The casting tells you jack shit. The stamp on the deck tells you all the information.

Block year is very important info. And there's always a chance of a mis-represented 305. So why is that casting number useless again? Ryan, let us know what you come up with!

V-Flint, MI and other than day and month I think the rest is useless, I'm afraid. Someone more Chebbyfied might be able to get more out of that number.

its useless because I can tell from the info he posted that

It was built in Flint, MI on July 5th

and TJA =

TJA = 1973 or 1979 TJA 350 LS9 165hp 4barrel from a* C-30 & 3500

there should be another number with that one you just posted Ryan, That will tell us the Year of the block. Should be right above it and look similar to this: 18N123456
