u wanna put a 91 rearend into a 79? or a 79 rearend into a 91???
both are gonna take more work then just a str8 bolt in, 79's i beleive have leaf springs, so ur gonna have to fab up some brackets and weld them onto the 91 rear end. but if u plan on putting the 79 rear end into the 91, ur gonna need a lot of work, ur gonna have to add a pan hard bar mount, coil spring mounts, and the all important and PITA torque arm mount.... id say just forget about it, buy a rear end that fits your year, and build it up :D

tons of work, i believe the wheelbase is different too, a 2nd gen rearend is 61" from flange to flange. you will have to change absolutely everything. big work, fair bit of $$$$ 8.5" is 10x stronger then the 7.5 though

yup I looked into an 8.5" from a 2nd gen into a 3rd gen, unless you get the rear cheap and you can fabricate for yourself (ie cheap to free) it's easier/cheaper to just buy a ready drop in 12 bolt or 9", 12bolt being the cheaper.
there was a guy doing 10 bolts 8.5" setup for 3rdgen out of alberta, but he wanted 1600+.

i know a guy locally that can do it :D 1600 is cheap especially if theres anything non stock in the diff. they are pretty damn strong stock though. oh and the footprint is more i believe, a 2nd gen 8.5 is 61" from flange to flange
