i cant realy specify when it happens..but it will be in first and it will pop out...then i try to slam it back in but it grinds...i have to let it idle and stop the car....and if i hold it in so it doesnt do it, it just grinds and grinds till i jump out of my seat and let it go....is this an example of a 350 tearing up a t5? :D

Sounds like a synchro or a warn fork 1st and 2nd gear fork.

yeah or your just not putting it in gear all the way,
its probably worn out, but in 1 of my old camaros I had to push hard when I was putting it in first or it would pop out,
try double clutching it into first, you could milk it alittle longer if it is a worn synchro

how hard/easy/expensive r these parts to buy and when u say double clutching do u mean pumping the clutch?

I'd just put a used tranny in unless your going to front the bill for a complete rebuild, and I wouldn't rebuild a non world class, its like shooting yourself in the foot :D
I wouldn't go internal on your tranny unless you know what your looking at
best bet pick up a world class 5 speed, they are a fare bit stronger than the non world class, I belive '88 and up are world class
double clutch, put it in neutral let the clutch out rev your motor put the clutch in and then put it in first

Or just dont use the clutch at all. But i guess that is kinda hard at a stop when u need first gear. LOL

maybe next time it happends i wont hesitate to just start in 2nd gear...and its kinda hard to do that shifting without a clutch cause i dont have a working tach...
what would cause this to happen to the 1st gear?

1st gear is used most often with overdrive n reverse used the the least do the math they wear out first. Forks get worn out quickly with people that hold the shifter or rest there hand on it because it puts pressure on the fork so they wear out fast synchros just kind of wear out no warning they r just like thin discs with little grooves kinda looks like a micro fly fleel. Forks r made of aluminum too not exactly the hardest material.
