Mike ... the options codes for Players cars are:
1986 - A4Q
1987-88 - A4U
1989-1992 - R7U
A4Q and R7U you had no choice other than color. 1986 you could only choose from the cars GM built, no pre-order.
A4U, you could order a base car, or load it up with the option packages like pw, pl, tilt, delay wipers, stereo. My 1987 is a stripper and my 1988 has lots of options. In 1989, cars were equiped with options for better resale.

Hey Guys:
My name is Ryan, I am a newbie to the site from Calgary and I have owned over a dozen third-gens and have been a Player's Fan since, well forever.* I have lots of documentation that I have shared with MarkZZ3...
Anyways, Mark are you sure about this option thing?* I have not only seen, but also have documentation on SEVERAL 1988 A4U Cars and other than paint/interior color, they were all IDENTICALLY optioned.* Mind you, these were all Camaros and all Western Series Cars...
Other interesting notes: 1988 A4U cars did not have such equipment as the "1LE" rear brakes or the aluminum driveshaft and they were still equipped with fog lamps!* They were definately not true 1LE cars until the 1989 model year... ???
Ryan (soon to be a true "Player")

Hi Ryan,
A4Q cars were "batch" order by GM. No choice, even on color. You got what GM ordered.
A4U. Yes you had a choice in option levels. My 87 A4U has NO options, but my 1988 A4U has many options. I have build sheets from other that show this as well. I think the 1988 cars were more optioned than the 1987 cars.
R7U. This package was announced in Nov, 1988 and was created to specifically deal with different optioned cars. They all had to be identical.
Mark.
PS. Glad to see you here. Lots of cars and owners.

Mark:
Thanks for the welcome!* I look forward to becoming a "real Playa" soon!* It's been a long time comin'...
I am beginning to wonder if what you've found is true only for the Firebirds?
I have yet to see ANY 88 A4U Camaros with any deviations in options from car to car.
Have you documentation that states otherwise? Also, does anyone know about any color restrictions? I have only seen, white, red, black and a few blue cars...were these the only 4 color choices available for series cars?
Ryan

I'll have to dig. 1988 might have been more standardized over 1987.
I have an info sheet on 1987 that says you can pick the X01 or X02 option codes when ordering your "player's car". Not sure if that exists for 1988.

Oh ya ... and you have to own two or more cars to join the club. :D

Not sure what those two option codes mean X01/X02...as I said, 1988 Camaros have seemed completly identical other than color...
Okay...I don't know about owning two cars...how about having "ridden/driven" in several A4U/R7U/1LE/B4C cars...?
I think that combining with all the info I have should help qualify me once I buy my car... :fingersx:
LOL!
