I recived a ticket for lights being out,
1 of 2 licence plates lights,
and my 3rd brake light being out,
I read the MVA it says nothing about a 3rd brake light being required, and I know of other vehicles the same year as mine that don't have a 3rd brakelight
my licence plate was more than visible with a single light,

It still comes down to this:
4.02(2) A vehicle on a highway must be equipped with lamps equivalent to those provided by the original manufacturer in accordance with the requirements that
applied under the Motor Vehicle Safety Act (Canada), or a predecessor to that Act, at the time of vehicle manufacture.
If your car was built with a center high mount stop light, it still needs to be there and be working. If it was built without one, you do have the option of adding one if you wished to.

yep take it to court, tell the judge that burnt out bulbs happen at anytime, including while driving. and that you recognize it is your responsability. you can say that you dont have anyone to help do a 'pre trip inspection' to verify all light are working. i've heard a story like this come down to the judge saying its your responsiblity, and the defendant then asked the judge, do you stop get out and go around your car every block? because thats all it takes to make a light go out. I think this law is totally bogus. like I said, how is someone supposed to do a pre trip insepciton by themselves. I know some of us can, but imagine a female who isn't too mechanically concious? or an elderly persoN? are they going to have to do a pre trip inspection everytime they use the car? and it should be ONCE a day. who the fuck woudl do this every time they got into there car? i do that too many times in a day to count.
like I said... bogus law!

Take a valium, then look this page over:
http://www.ag.gov.bc.ca/courts/tickets/info/violation_ticket.htm
You can dispute the penalty on the ticket in writing without having to bother attending court.

Actually, discussing the matter with our JP, he never hears from the officer, nor does he see your driving record when you dispute the penalty in writing. All he has is a copy of the ticket and what you send in.
Somehow your submission arrives on his desk, he reads what you have to say, makes a decision and the registry notifies you what it is.

You're right. Technically they are a JJP or Judicial Justice of the Peace in traffic court.
