I do but not with my camaro, I use my girlfriends s-15 jimmy
under 300 watts with 2 12's it hits 139.9 db
ran my camaro once only hit 125 db but what do you expect with a convertible
f-bodies create great spl my brother hit 135.7db with a 100 watt alpine amp and two alpine type s 10's

well im going for about 155 with my next install...if i get 160 ill be impressed but my goal is 155
i have quite a bit of installation experience but no competition experience. I had my first install metered, 1 15 ported with about 400 watts out of a trunk and hit 142.2 @ 27hz. The db number is nothing special but the fact that it was so low is what makes it a fairly good score.
it took me 6 different boxes to hit that, and about 9 months worth of trial and error with the setup.

the problem is 145 to 155 is about 10 times louder, i used to be super into it with my buddy but hes out of it for now cuz of school and career and such but one day i want to finish my setup, just need the right vehicle to put it in. problem is it gets real boring after a while, to much ghetto around competitions :-\

apparently there is supposed to be more comps around the BC area this year though.
they say every 10 dbs is consider twice as loud to the human ear so that tells you how loud some of the big competitors are. A loud street car is around 145, a loud comp vehicle is at 175.
btw the 142.2 was with my old setup, the new setup is capable of going over 160 with enough power and a good install.
what setup do you have? maybe i can help with the install

i dont have anything right now for competition, i got my old alpine system sitting in pieces in my room, it was weighning my car down, needed to go faster, and my car was way too loud, couldnt hear the music cleanly, exhaust would rip into it. so i said forget it, ill just listen to the music of my car lol

every 3 db is twice as loud
my buddies got a tahoe with 2 12" rockford hx2 running of an alpine 1507, he hit 153 db- sitting in it is fucking insane
I think the world record is still 178.9 db 4 15's in an astro

i dont think 3 db is twice as loud...i think you gain 3db from either doubling your cone area, the power, or porting your box (most of the time)
i sat in a pioneer demo truck with 16 12s hitting in the low 150s and it was pretty intense. I also walked past an s10 doing 163s, he burped it when the door facing me was open and my knees buckled.
i dont know about the current world record...the only one was 177.7 from Team BS using 16 treo csx 12s and i dunno how many DEI 1100ds. This season they've re-done the termpro mics though, apparently they're like 4 db down from last year.

indeed the factor is 3 dB is 2 times as loud, good ol exponential units of measurement

"sounds" like fun (get it?) ::)
I don't want to do anything like that until I get it dialed in. I don't have any clue as to what my response looks like. The only thing that I'm sure of is 300W per sub, running just a little dirty. Given 93dB/W at 300W is 117dB. Plus 6 dB because there are 4 of them = 123.8dB. Add in cabin lift at around 20dB and that puts me around 143ish. But I can't find a shop with a meter that goes over 134dB so I have no idea. Seems like you're going to go over that mark though huh?

using that method to determine your score isnt very reliable at all. but i think you would be around the 143 range
with the setup i have now i should be at 155, hopefully pulling low 160s when i get the rest of my amps

I know its not reliable, but it gets you in the ball park area. I was cranky when I bought the new 12's because the old 10's had the same sensitivity. I was hoping to gain 3db or so. As soon as my other amp gets back I'm probably going to do 2 MTX500D's which could bump up the power another 100W or so. Maybe.

ya SPL wise...your install and how much power you throw at the subs matters a lot more than which subs you use. If you can get everything together in a good install you would be surprised what some subs can do with the right tuning

I have a hell of a time finding local competitions and I always seem to stumble upon them just as they are ending.
Where is the nest place to go to find whats happening for competitions in my area?
I am in the lower mainland BC.

it really depends on the frequency being played. Most experts say you could instantly go deaf with 160db but there's a dbdrag competitor known as Big Oki who sits in many vehicles hitting higher than that.
One of my old setups did 142.2 at the dash at 27hz and that was very very uncomfortable inside the car. More so to your body than your ears. It was very hard to breathe and blurred your vision quite a bit.

I have competed many times, not in my Camaro though, I used to have a cutlass with 4 Pg Xs Dvc 12's in it with an alpine MRV-1002 nice little amp but I was hitting 148.9 legal DB with a sealed box, My Jbl GTI 18 cranked out a 150db and then died shortly there after, Had a set off of MTX Thunder 6000's and cracked a 145db and then they died shortly there after, Broke my leg sold most of my audio shit and then recently bought a set of Concept Sse-10's running the Alpine amp not too loud but oh so clean with a jvc-kdsx 950 head unit and a new 1.0 farad cap and hopefully a new line driver soon things can only look up, Mids I am running a set of Alpine 6x9's factory location and a set of Pioneers factory location yes yes the mids suck but like I said I sold most of my stuff my old mids were Morel for those who care and my old amp was a Genesis dual mono "best amp ever" anyway enough rambling later

200 db isnt possible in our atmosphere the air will liquify...i think 194db is the absolute physical limit

I used to work with a guy who had a little tiny Honda with 12's behind the seats, he's a really skinny guy, probably only weighs 120ish. Anyways, he had to get surgery to have his lung reattached, bass shook it loose, or some fucked up thing. Doctor told him it was somewhat common in really skinny guys with systems in their cars. ???
