I've been researching a car I've found for sale as the owner claims it is a 1LE car. It's an '89 TA. I went to the dealer and asked him to run the VIN # to confirm this, of which they confirmed it is. However, someone else pointed out R7U is listed as well. 1LE and R7U listed together in '89 mean players car right? Were all players cars raced or did some end up on the street? This is a daily driven car with a performance rebuilt 350 swapped in. Apparently close to mint condition.
Here is what the dealer printed off for me:

Sounds like the real deal? Were you able to trace any ownership history? I remember most of those drivers and I have a few race programs from those days.

I don't want to say too much as I am going to drive it this coming week...I don't want someone else to jump on it before I do. As far as I know though, the guy who is selling it has owned it for 3 years and don't believe there is any additional info.

Yup that is real.* one of 17.* Rare rare rare.
I talked to the owner before. I have the VIN in my files. I also have the original owner on file but I know the current owner knows this too.
The only downside to this car is that the original drivetrain is gone. Still probably a nice car, but not 100% original. Although the painted marked TPI is there, just a few marks on the block won't be there.
Check it closely for other modifications.
Mark.

Very interesting. I realize the motor swap changes things. However, it is positive in other ways as it is superior performance wise to the original.
What is it worth?
