just wondering if there are things you can do to a t-5 to strengthen it to handle a lot of power...like 450 horse...if i have to go with a t-56 i will but would rather a t-5

the only benifit a T-5 has over a T-56 is its lighter,

but its lighter cause its not as strong,

hp isn't a problem for the T-5 its torque

there is a T-Rex kit but I belive its for non-WC

if your running that kind of power the weight saving you'll have over a T-5 to a T-56 will be barely noticable

with say a mildly modded 305 I'd try and stick with a T-5 if I had a mild 350 I'd go T-56

so there nto really the same at all....you COULD make it work tho.... like if you had a chevy t5 and a ford t5 and you have to make one work you could swap all the parts and tada..

The GM T5 mounts at an angle, and has the shifter almost at the back of the case.

The Ford T5 mounts upright and has a shifter come out considerably further forward. They would make a good source of internal parts, as would any of the other cars that used the T5.

I am using the GM version on my 3.4 engine swap as I needed to have the shifter as far back as I could and the 15 deg. mounting angle was no problem. I looked around for a shorter shifter but in the end saved myself $200 by sawing off part of the original Camaro lever and rethreading it :D

I used a 1989 WC V8 trans as I much preferred the ratios to the trucklike ratios in many other applications and the wider ratios in the V6 versions. Also figured that if I ever went crazy and decided to turbo the motor I could use the higher torque rating (of course in that case I'd also be looking for a new diff...)

Only thing I didn't like about this box is the really tall 5th - the .73 of the V6 version would have been better than the .63 in my box. When mated to the 3.08 diff of the original V8 Camaro, you can see they were going for gas milage, not performance.....maybe it will be better with my 3.9 diff.

The electronic speedo sender didn't bother me as I am going to electronic instruments anyway.

How do you guys with this gear set find it on the street - decent splits between gears?
