what chance do you think i have of finding a 91 or 92 Z28 with a 305/M5?
all i ever seem to find for sale is 350/A4s
although there isnt much on the market right now. maybe ill find one in the spring/summer? :fingersx:

anyways.. to the point. anyone know the numbers on how many z28's were produced with 305/m5?

You can buy mine and change it to a M5. I only wan't 40,000 for it. lol jk..

All I know is that is going to be one tough find buddy. Very little 305 M5. Just wondering tho how come you didn't want the 350?

well. 350 would be nice, but i want a manual car.
but then again.. i want to do an Ls1 swap/6spd into it much later down the road.
plus, it wouldn't be all that easy converting it to manual. or.. maybe it wouldnt be to hard as long as i can get all the parts.

hmm so many decisions..

my cars an M5 swap. It's good if you take your time. My clutch is REALLY stiff and it's not even an aftermarket clutch, stock replacement...

if you can't swap to manual

you won't be able to do an LS1 swap

and I'm still convinced that it was the corvette guys that would've been jealous to find out that a 350 Z28 with a 5speed would probably run head to head with a 'vette. Of course, this depends on driver and the options on both cars.

305 5 speed dual cat, 3.45 rear will keep up with the same year vette good, I still belive they are faster then a 350 dual cat 3.27 auto

a 350 5 speed dual cat with 3.45 will beat a vette,

my bros 350 5 speed dual cat 3.27 rear vert ran a low 14 with no traction cause of fucked shocks

hence, why I believe that it was GM not wanting the "I am part of the Corvette Club of America" owners feeling owned by a factory 350 5-speed Camaro.

When the 350 was introduced in the FBody platform, they had 5 speed test cars (LB9 underhood arrangements) and it was proven that a couple of the 5 speeds were torn up. Think about the timeframe here, the WC T5 didnt come out for two years from the L98 development period and the regular T5's could only sustain 285 ft-lbs as shown by BW's rigorous factory testing. GM did not want the pain of having to warranty tons of these trannies, think about the cost implications that could have on GM, having to replace hundreds of broken trannies. Theoretically, they could have installed the WC the following model year, but again, the cost came down due to testing the 5 speed L98s, they didnt want to mess around anymore, they had a L98 platform and it worked so they went with it. In 1992 they tried to get the L98 teamed up with the ZF 6 speed (Im sure you are aware of the two B4C's assembled) but again, cost was an issue as the headers, siamesed intake and ZF tranny costed way too much and they couldnt market it and make a feasible profit.

The whole Y-Body GM corporate myth is just that; a myth. People seem to get it stuck in their head that GM doesnt want anything faster or rated better on paper than their flagship. Im sure they couldnt give a shit, there have been cars rated higher than the Vette more than once, and it will probably occur in the future again. You have to think about the chain of command in GM, the CEO of GM's span of control over the different horizontal specializations isnt that broad. The individual company executives are empowered quite a bit to do what they wish to a certain extent. The Y-Body may be Chevy's flagship, but it's not the flagship for the entire company. And besides, they're not going to stifle profits in the name of a marketing tool...that's just not going to happen.
