Hi

No you don't. I did them on my 4th gen. Most over the counter designs are whimpy pieces of shit. Also, because they are generic they fit like shit. The material costs are minimal. The real cost is in the under chassis preparation and precission fit by hand. Any good chassis guy will know what to do.

Do not use anything less then 2" square tube. The best is way is to cut the floor and tie in to the front and rear frames. If this is to drastic for you, then you can run them under the pinch on each side and then weld them to the rear control arm barckets (most common type). This is easier to do, but you will give up some strength.

2" square will tuck up into the pinch on each side and not hang down. I bought some BMR units and they hung way down. There is no good reason for this other then that are intended for muffler guys to install. I sold them and had them built out of 2: square tube. They also welded extra v braces over from the main tubes to the tunnel mounts, sort of like a Kenny Brown double diamond. Also, extra support between the rear control arm mounts and the inner frame rails.

They turned out really nice and cost $400.00 By the time you buy over the counter units and then pay to have them installed you will not save any money.

If you must buy them try UMI, Kenny Brown, BMR Fabrication, Spohn Performance, Global West, or Granatelli.
